No but I have now. Thats the thing, although we have to make it International ,so instead of saying "Dublin Town Hall"we have to say a town hall. I might get out tomorrow and I might remember to stop by the steam engine this time.Unless someone beats me to it.
Okay, looks like the we might be stalled on the steam engine. I dunno if this helps. My bike, with a recently boiled steaming kettle next to an engine. Next bike next to a balloon.
Thanks littleade my mistake but steam engine or train cant see a newly boiled plastic kettle fits the bill
Well ok Littleade How about this - not a balloon and a motorcycle but - A buffoon and his motorcycle Sorry @dilligaf but funny and you know I loves Ya (if agreeable and fits the bill Dilli choses next picture tag )
I made a steam driven boat last night from some foam and a bit of copper pipe. I’ll take a photo of it sat on my bike when I get home.
Ok Bike with colliery pit head lift behind it, I was going to make it a challenge and ask for a working colliery but thought I'd go gentle.
There you go. A steam engined boat, sat on the seat of one of my bikes It took about 10 minutes to make and curiously has no moving parts. You prime it by filling the copper pipe with water. Once the night light is lit the water in the coil heats, and when it hits boiling point it turns to steam, driving water in the pipes out of the back. Pushing the boat forward. As the steam expands it cools, reverting back to liquid form leaving a vacuum which pulls water back into the pipe and the cycle starts again. It results in a ‘pulse jet’ motion but it does work. (I used another night light foil as a ‘hat’ for the coil which makes it more efficient since heat retention is the key to making the pulses more frequent - but I took it off for the photo so people can see how it works!) Since writing this post took longer than actually making the bloody thing I’m not going to develop it further unless my son wants to play with it in the bath and expresses more than a passing ‘oh dad’s built another “thing”!’ (Okay Robert - so it’s not as clever as an iPad.... but come the apocalypse it will still work long after your iPad battery and the internet is history!)
