Tom the sensible one rode a Matchless 250 and Toms not so sensible friend was riding a Triumph Tiger Cub 200cc. First bike I had on the road in 1966 was a Tiger Cub and it was a pile of sh*te. Mind you I was trying to go everywhere at 100mph which it obviously wouldn’t do,,,,so perhaps it was my fault
Lol. Been about 50 years since anybody called me a youngster Thank you! But, yeah...guess it would be uncomfortable Still, that's another saying, boots on the other foot. Only the rich could afford boots.....but I digress. Not as uncomfortable as putting your undercrackers on back to front.
Feeling spring in the air the other day I decided to dust the cobwebs off my mountain bike. I'd not long set off for the mountains ( my local hill ) and felt a bit, well a lot, uncomfortable down below. First opportunity away from prying eyes. I undid my overtrousers to check what was going on below. Not only was I wearing my padded undershorts on back to front I had them inside out too. I carried on regardless and by the time I got home I was quite enjoying the experience.
Nodded to a police motorcyclist yesterday. At exactly the same moment he gave me a nod. Put the icing on the cake of what had been a most enjoyable ride out with the rats.
I have noticed that the police do give you a nod, not all but that is ok cause not all ordinary bikers nod anyway..
Don’t know if that scooter was a Triumph or a Sunbeam the later was my first mode of transport made me smile.
Was the Sunbeam you refer to a BSA Sunbeam as I don’t think Sunbeam Motorcycles manufactured scooters of that style if at all. The Triumph Tigress and the BSA Sumbeam were the same bike I think. In my early teens a friend of mine’s father had a Tigress and when his parents went out for a drink on a Saturday night they would walk to the village pub and we would ride the scooter up and down the lane where we lived. All was good until a neighbour told his father about our antics and that was the end of that little adventure
I can only remember on 2 occations i wasnt on my own Stopped on the hard shoulder not long back for two scooters we all have two wheels.

Interesting thread.. a few weeks ago myself and a buddy noticed in the distance a biker in what looked like mechanical trouble, so we divert our route and headed over. The issue was a simple one, a loose chain and after doing what we could, and noticing he was only 19 or 20 we ask how far his house was and we escorted him by road back to his house and left.. the young guy was stunned by out actions 'biker code' even for those with L's on. Now flip to last week and I had my spill in central London, around 5 ish. Now considering I hit the deck and bike and I had taken up the two lanes, not one person came to see if I was ok, or come to help me get bike upright (not that I needed it but !!) I then had to hold traffic myself whilst trying to get bike off the road. In that time I reckon 10 maybe 15 bikers either passed me on my side of the road or the other way. I then went on to count more pass when I had hazards on and was trying to sort myself out and the bike. Which you could clearly see was damaged .. I personally think the Biker Code is forgotten in London and never even heard of by those Scooter riders ... oh well it wont change my attitude, I will always stop if some needs help bike or car ...
Mark Hughes. Sorry to hear that. But glad you are alright and up and running. Yes London it's a funny old place. And everyone seems to be in a rush. Life is to short to live like that. That's why I try to avoid London if I can. Regards Joe.
