Both relays are switching so I think its a problem between there and the lights. I have power coming out so it must be a cable break. Just a case of trying to find it!
There is no power to the LHS. I think it might just as easy to rewire using DeCosse's guide. Fairly straightforward and I don't have to find the break!
No power to the actual LHS bulb connector but there is power out of the relay. Tomorrow I am going to rig up a bypass straight from the relay to the connector. If that works its a break somewhere in the harness.
It would be odd for both high & low wires to be broken between the relays and the bulb connector did you check for voltage with a meter from the bulb connector to chassis / earth ?
Just thinking about it, it is strange that if those two small link wires are bridging the power wires, on both plugs, then I get dip/main beam on both lights. Yet if I put the relays in I only get the RHS light. The relays are clicking, the lights work but not with relays which is strange. So I can conclude that there is not a break as the lights actually work.
Well I've found the problem. The relays I bought are the wrong type. I still had a Durite one which I slotted in and the lights work. I now have to find a similar one.....
Good to hear, Durite are a common car type relay most motor factors should be able to sort you with another, take the one you have with you for the reference number.
Relay purchased, fitted and lights working! And somewhat brighter than before which was the point of doing all this! Thanks for everyone's help.
Hello mate Glad you got your lights sorted I was wondering if you could give me some help. I’ve just purchased a 2006 st1050. Both headlights work simultaneously but when putting the main beam on, the power only seems to go to the small ‘side light’ bulb in front of the central - what looks like a reflector. I know nothing about electrics so was wondering if you could advise in simple terms! Thanks in advance
The first thing that springs to mind is a blown bulb . Beyond that it could be a blown fuse or a faulty relay. I would check things in that order to start.
