My better half has just bought herself a bright green day glow water proof jacket and she says anything that helps get you noticed while out on the bike is safer and therefore better. Trouble is I just can not bring myself to wear it; worn black gear in either leather or textile for the last 30 years. The French were attempting to make all motorcycle riders wear high Vis jackets and I can see the safety brigade getting on the bandwagon here, so what are your views: Yes it's great I wear it all the time. When I am in the mood. No never and will wear what I like.
Richard thanks god for that ... for a moment i thought you were going to say your were going day glow.. Get a loud pipe... I wear black as well and even that has some scoth bright which is enough..... Anyway Black is slimming and i need as much help as i can get....
Lol me too screw ball... But I've just had to buy a hi vis vest for the IAM I've just started. Whilst its not mandatory it is ground upon not wearing one.... The thing is, it's an item which you will probably never know when it stopped someone pulling out on you... For's and against like anything I guess... I personally prefer not to wear them but sometimes it just has to be done ....
Yeah there must be a reason .... personally when i'm in my car... (most days heading for London) it the headlights that i notice not the Day glow jackets... headlights on and be seen... Maybe from the rear they may be better but i not interested in getting done from the rear... OOOhhh errrhhh Missus
Lmao yeah but your a biker, non bikers are the majority who don't think bike when they see a single headlight, but a hi vis will bring a 2nd check to most day dreamers behind a wheel even if its just cos they are worried about a speeding fine...
TRL`s report on hi viz is worth a read, personally never worn one on a bike and not likely to so there
I've got a bit of reflective material on the back of me boots. But as I've got an America (feet first) it's a much use as tits on a bull. & that's it for hi viz for me.
Hi-Viz clothing is not for me thanks. I have to wear a hi-viz vest at work on some locations or the Health & Safety Police wont let you on site but as for motorcycling..... Plenty of chrome, headlight on, loud pipes plus my Nike trainers have got fluorescent ticks on the side! View attachment 666
Different strokes for different folks hey Tone. Adidas Samba & Gazelle are both very nice & comfy old skool trainers but not really suitable for motorcycling unlike my reflective Nikes which are perfect for the job combining practicality & comfort at its best!
In the summer i will be mostly wearing these bad boys when cruising about on me America..... View attachment 667
I can see the plus points in day glow stuff, but it's not for me. My jacket has reflective piping for night riding but day time its just lights on
Those Nikes look a bit too much like a running/jogging shoe to me, neither of these activities I'm much inclined to indulge in. If I'm ever in a hurry a purposeful (old skool) stride is as quick as it gets.
I can just see us all in Polite vests. No to full hi viz is my answer. My jackets do have reflective bits in them but other than that they are black. No purple, pink, yellow or orange anywhere. If I had hair I might consider those colours in it just for fun
Looks like I'm going to be the only person on the forum who wears a hi-viz waistcoat then! I commute daily on the M62 and have done in all weathers for the past 16 months. The difference between seeing someone in Hi-Viz and someone dressed in all black is undeniably massive. Headlamps can get mixed in with other vehicles, a Hi-Viz vest does not! If it keeps me safer and gives a better chance of me being seen then I don't give two shits what anyone else thinks. The only time I do not put the Hi-Viz on is when I wear my summer Alpinestars jacket which has about 50% white in it and is highly visible I hope. So sorry guys, if it keeps me safer and gets me home to my loved ones then I will continue looking like a nerd, f**kwit or whatever in the eyes of some, but using the name of one of our newer forum members. Yup I'm a high Vis on my tiger as o do more miles but not on the Thrux as it keeps riding up under my chin. You can see I hi viz better than black from the side behind and front, obviously not if your getting blinded by headlights but you can't pick anything out then
