I thought I knew what I needed to know about tyres (round, black, and errm...), but this article added a bit to my knowledge, and I found it quite interesting too. https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesoci...ikesocials-complete-guide-to-motorcycle-tyres
Good article. Thanks. One of the most important takes from the article is the added safety of tubeless tires on cast wheels versus tube tires on spoked wheels. I have a new Street Twin and my 1st triumph. All of my past bikes were Japanese cruisers w/ tubeless tires. When I made the change to Triumph I wanted a 900 and looked at the T100 and Street Twin. One of the main reasons I decided on the ST was the cast wheels w/ tubeless tires. I like the traditional look of spokes wheels but personally would not own a bike w/ spoked wheels/tube tires for safety reasons. I have done roadside plug flat repairs before and was able to get home. My opinion - safety first !!
Good article. The advice about buying the right tyre, not necessarily the stickiest track tyre is an excellent point. I remember reading a piece of advice for bikers about tyres: for all the electronics, suspension design, new technologies & rider skill, at the end of the day, the ONLY thing that actually keeps you on the road are those rings of rubber, so we shouldn't compromise on buying the best tyre we can afford & making sure we care for them properly (Correct pressures, watching for damage, replacing them in good time etc). It's something that has stuck so I'm very picky about tyres & happily spend plenty on the best suited tyre.
Yep good read. I still like spoked wheels on bikes, so will have to live with the additional risk... Wessa
As some of you know, the UK had some wintery weather yesterday. I was having to use the Sprint & the points in the article about having the right tyres was proven: The bike is shod with Pirelli Angel GT's & while they were rather expensive, I find them to be superb tyres & the fact that despite the cold, snow & ice, the bike didn't even twitch the whole ride home (25miles) makes them totally worth it.
