I have a 1998 tiger 900 carb model. I had problems starting and traced it to a faulty side stand switch, now replaced. It now starts ok but cuts out when I change from first to second when riding. Any ideas guys and gals ??
It sounds like when the neutral light is activated between first and second it is in someway powering the side stand circuit. Take it that the bike does not cut out if you pull away in second and go up through the gearbox? Does the new side stand cut out switch work and cut the engine if you hold the bike running in gear and then lower the side stand?
I will test it tomorrow, since posting and receiving your suggestion I bypassed the side stand switch and it still cuts out.
Thanks for the link sprintdave, hi Pete. I am picking up a new side stand cutout switch and a neutral light switch on Thursday. Both from Bill Smiths in Chester. I suspect one or both have intermittent fault. I have bypassed the side stand switch and earthed the neutral light switch. The fault has disappeared. I will keep you guys posted.
