    Hello everyone!
This is my first post on this forum and i would like to introduce myself.
I am from Brazil and living in Ireland for the past 17 years. My main ride at the moment is a Yamaha Fazer 600 and i on the look out to replace my beloved - own it for the past 3 years now - with a Triumph 1050.
I went to see a 2008 blue one yesterday. Love color with matching factory side panniers. Engine sounded great and but could not have a go on it as the weather here was hurricane like storm.
The engine sounded great and apart from a few cosmetic scratches here and there, and a bit of rust on the downpipes bolts all seem to be in good condition of a 10 year old bike.
What struck me though at last minute, was a cable on the left hand side grip near the clutch cable. This cable was cutted.
The dealer did no know what it was for so i tried to google. What i found is the image attached. I have marked where the cable was cut.
I reluntact to make the deal until i find out why this cable was cutted and what is its purpose.
I would appreciate anyone could point out this.

    Regards.

    Adriano

Hi adasilva and welcome. That cable will be for the clutch switch. A previous owner has obviously done away with the switch, possibly because of a fault along the line. It’s supposed to be part of the safety start system allied to the side stand switch. The theory is that if the bike is in gear and/or the side stand is down the bike won’t start unless the clutch is pulled in thereby preventing a dangerous situation.

Hello Yorkshireman thanks for your replying. So i suppose that there was an issue which prevented the bike from started and thus the cable was cutted.
wonder if there is any other electrical issues then...

That was my next thought after I posted, perhaps you should check for any obvious signs of botched wiring although a lot is hidden under the fuel tank behind the frame. Good luck.
Edit. Check if the fitment and operation of the clutch or side stand switch forms part of the mot, I can’t see anything in the procedure for the uk.

    Thanks
Thanks for that. I think to be on the safe side i will just pass on this bike. It seems to be strange that he did not know about it and more strange why this was cut in the first place. There might be some electrical issues which by the dealers warranty is not covered. - He is only covering Engine and gearbox. So i not going to take my chances with it.

    regards.

Do people simply cut this cable to avoid having to pull in the clutch to start the engine?

I’m no electrician but I don’t think it’s as simple as that and there’s also the side stand switch to consider.
