Portable Power

    I'm about to embark on replacing the head gasket on my Tiger. My garage has no power to it so I'm searching for a way to get some light and warmth in there.

    If I had no neighbours, I'd buy any one of a thousand petrol or diesel generators but with the old folks guaranteed to give me earache over the noise (ironic considering they've nearly all got deaf-aids), I have to have some respect about this.

    There are some quiet generators available that run at around 50-60dB but they're about a grand, more than I can afford.

    So just wondering if anyone has advice or suggestion for a battery pack type device? Don't want to pay more than about 200 quid so I don't expect it to last more than about 1-2 hours before needing a recharge.

    I get by with a rechargeable torch, lasts about 4 hours so Ive got two of them.Then I take the bits to the shed which has power but no access for the bike, work on it there.

    As said its all going to be difficult, Is there any chance one of them pensioners may let you run an extension cable from there home to your garage as and when needed, may need to explain your situation regards noise etc and only needed to carry out a repair (you could say just for light) then jobs done blow fan heater and whatever else you need within reason, of course you would offer a decent contribution to there electric bill (but would be no near what you have to spend)
    You may find a lot of these pensioners are pretty much ok and understanding if treated with friendship and respect.
    ( I found just that with @Dozers Dad at the GMU at Bellingham :D:D:p)

    Thanks for the replies lads. I could run a wander lead from the basement of my own apartment, across the car park and in to the garage. I was just trying to figure out a better way. I've got a load of petrol laying around - that I pumped out of my diesel car when I was being a muppet :weary_face:- but seems a generator isn't a good option after all.

    I never cease to be amazed where this forum can go so far off thread, first we are talking about how to get leccy to a workshop and somehow we get to hurling insults about world feckin wars. :tired_face:

    You could build a soundproof box for a generator.
    Should bring the noise level down to an acceptable level.

    LED 12 volt lights are now very advanced and have a minimum power drain from a 12 volt battery so that would take care of the lighting just take the battery home every now and then and charge it, Heating is going to be a problem you can get some calor heaters that do not show a flame its just a sort of heat exchanger on the front.
