Wow, that new fairing is going to look nice, how much is a fairing and where can i get one, and how much you asking for the little screen….
And after saying that, fitting the full fairing will be more of a thing to enhance the already good looks of the thruxton, i always remember when i tested the fairing version before i bought my bike, it didn't take me long to realise the fairing and screen is quite low, i found that at high speed the wind was channeled straight into your face, i noticed that it was quite hard going on my neck due to the high force of the wind, that was on the motorway at around 70mph….. in order to avoid such wind if its at all possible is to get your chin on the tank…. but anyway…. i still love the look and its going to make your thruxton look stunning.
After a VERY wet and VERY cold test ride today the deal was done and the Scrambler 865 was traded in for a 17 plate Thruxton 1200... What a nice bike to ride!! Didn't leave "rain" mode as it was chucking it down! Can't wait to pick her up in a couple of weeks!
I bought the fairing new but white on eBay for £320.00 and paid £120.00 to paint it black they are around £650.00 to buy from Triumph
That sounds like a good deal Glyn, i like yer way of thinking, so please explain more, as i understand you need a fitting kit too, did that come with it aswel, if it did then that was cheap…. i was reading your post regarding your bars and how you want to keep your originals, sounds like its possible by the sound of things….are you fitting it yourself too…. as thats a good few hours labour @£100 odd per hour aint it…..
The triumph dealer in swindon had a green thruxton R when i was there, i think you will find that if a dealer has the stock they are willing to swap the tanks to make it a green R….
Yes it’s a complete new fairing and fitting kit, I’m now going to fit it with the lower bars after trying them I felt more comfortable. I’ll do it myself as I’m pulling the forks out this weekend to have Ohlins 25mm cartridges fitted, when it all goes back together it’ll be finished
It wont be finished until you get the brembos…….. ha and where do you get them new for 650 from triumph? have you got the link…. cant find….?
It’ll be better, both front and rear ohlins are going to be tailored for my weight. The brakes to be fair are no problem as they are. Plus I’ve still got the standard look
i have found with the thruxton that you have to accept its quite a firm ride, and as its originally a single seater, i found that moving yer arse back over the back shocks will make it a lot smother ride…..especially at speed …..
If you had to pin me down to choose one thing i would complain about the thruxton R is that its quite disappointing there isn't already some adjustment for lowering the bars , rather than shelling out more money and the bother of fitting a lowering kit, its all been designed to look good however, to get the bike how you want it costs a fortune……..why dont they just fit them as standard and charge a bit more, that goes for most things really, so many second hand standard exhausts, cat converters, indicators, rear lights, foot pegs, mudguards plus many others that most people end up changing, seems a bit of a shame really……..
It just so happens I have a low handlebar kit for the R it came with the fairing, whatever they cost I’ll do half price. They are brand new
Oh Glyn … yur bike is looking a bit sad, looks like its been dumped on the scrap heap, hope to see it looking a bit more healthy and ready for the road pretty soon…...
