Hi guys, first post here, I am a regular fisher and rely on my dad or a friend to go fishing with as they both own cars. I do not. I have a Triumph Thunderbird 1600 and was wondering if anyone on here has any experience with towing trailers with a motorbike and if so, point me in the right direction. Many thanks Kerrie
Hi Kerrie-Anne and welcome Trailers are the future I have used them for a number of years now and cannot praise them enough They’re very versatile and hold loads of gear for weekends away Two up camping is a doddle as you don’t have to strap everything to your bike and when riding I don’t even know it’s there Truthfully I can’t praise the use of a trailer enough I love em and should have been using them years before I did The one in the top picture is sat in my back yard now not getting used as I have another one now as you can see in the other pictures
Have you tried an inflatable mattress Dilli? I see you use a camp bed Ive used both and the inflatable is a good nights sleep.
Hi Kerrie Ann, I'm the other trailer nut but way more experienced and quiet than Dilligaf, but to be honest he hit the nail on the head makes things hell of a lot easier to get there with the mother load and more so packing up on a sunday when its raining as it normally does here, whats more i also ride a 1600 Tbird and will attach some photo's so long as you do likewise, As for towing its easy just gotta remember its there
Hey guys thanks so much for the replys! Some lovely bikes and trailers will definitely look into these. It will also be helpful for my other hobby....here are some photos showing what I get up to.
You seem to have it all going on there Kerrie, good looking Tbird, carp and plane, trailers is going to be easy for you lass.
How much am I roughly looking at for these trailers. Hopefully not as expensive as flying lol. Wouldn't be until next year I get one anyway.
To be honest anywhere from 100 quid to 600 quid for a bike trailer depending on what exactly you want, and a good engineering shop would have little problem building a tow bar for you from 100/ 150, The Tbird was one of the most easiest bikes I've ever built a tow bar for, just use the picture I posted to see how easy it connects to bike frame thats also used to secure/ hang rear exhausts, other support connects to sissy bar frame, on top of that wiring is so simple, behind right hand side (when sitting on bike) side casing you will find a connector plug that feeds rear lights on bike every wire you need for trailer can be piggy backed at this point. SIMPLE'S
Trailer size I'm looking for is maybe quite large lol. It needs to fit a fishing rod bag....so 6.5-7ft long. Definitely need to find a good engineer then lol, I can fly a plane but building things like tow bars....nah cant do that
Hmm i dont know them personally, but i trust them to keep the bird in the air haha. I will have a word with my flight instructor, he will know the staff at Shoreham Airport better than me. Good shout
Here is my camper, it's approx 900 mm wide and just over 600 mm tall (when stowed for towing) cant remember the length 1.8 or 1.9 ish Meters. It weighs 117 kgs with all camper attachments. Towing is easy, lighter the trailer the easier it is. My 09 Bonneville America handles it easy enough. View attachment IMG_20180923_061854_18CS.jpg
Here is my smaller lidded fibreglass box trailer. It weighs just 45kg and just over 420 mm tall. About 1.7 m long.
