Talk in the paper today is that Boorman and Mcgregor may be doing another long road trip. It is said that Ewan could be using a BMW or a Guzzi. Charley a Triumph Tiger Explorer. Be interested to know what othe members would do the same trip on. It will be from the tip of south america to the top of alaska. I'm wondering if an old BSA Bantam I have in the back of the garage would make it
Yeah I saw this. Ewan has worked with Guzzi and Charlie is a brand ambassador for Triumph. Can't really do it on a Beemer then! Have to take my Tiger I think, not the Bonneville!
Just use my Tuono. It's so roomy, seat is like a sofa, Lots of space for luggage, gets loads of mpg and that trusted Italian engineering, what could go wrong?
Big bikes would be ok for the good roads. From what I have seen of other such trips a lot of it would be on dirt tracks that turn into the Somme after rain. A light bike with plenty of grunt for me. Re the C90, over one hundred million sold worldwide and I think I saw most of them when I was last in Vietnam.

Be good if they had a different bike each that would be much more interesting,the choice is obviously massively influenced by whether terrain will have any off road sections.

One of my choices would be an ex-army Harley-Davidson MT350, but fitted with a larger Rotax engine. Incredibly robust and reliable if a little heavy.
2019 Honda Super Cub. And no fleet of suports trucks, $50,000. in Snap On tools and cases of spare parts. Oh, with the Cub all that extra's no needed. Nevermind.
If those 2 clowns had any sense of adventure they'd do the journey on old Honda C90's or a CZ or something equally weird. It won't happen of course because they won't get free bikes to do it on and they ain't gonna spend their own money, are they? I have nothing more than a brief passing interest in either of them but I do like the routes they do so I may watch it when it comes out. To me the best of all those road trips films were years ago, Mondo Enduro and Terra Circa. Recorded on old Super8 film video cameras and entirely self funded by a bunch of normal guys. Support vehicles? Sponsorship? Crew? Local and influential contacts? Not a bit of it and that's what made them more interesting than the spotlight that falls on Ewan and The Boring Man.
Agreed. Can't kill them, just look at all the Chinese clones about. Bullet proof is an understatement.
Above I said the new Honda Cub. Now there are other's mentioning the C90, a world class bike itself that can go anywhere. What disturbed me with the Long Way Round series was the stupidity of Fat Charlie yanking wheelies on every show. Sometimes in the middle of nowhere. That's why they needed a truck full of tools, parts and other support. Nothing to do with real life riding. Whenever I was more than a days ride from home I was always extra careful in the treatment of my bike. And when I was a few thousand miles away I would be downright fastidious. Wheelies and final drive failure, can they be connected? Yeah, a C90 or Super Cub and no freakin' support. Let's see what they are really made of. At least it would eliminate all their whining about how heavy the bikes are.
A bit harsh in my humble opinion. Whilst I would be among the first to agree that their endeavors in no way match those of Austin, the Mondo Enduro crew and the many hundreds of other adventure riders who just get on with it with no or minimal support, the Long Way Round and Long Way Down did a lot to promote adventure motorcycling and bring it to mainstream TV. Personally I wouldn't want to have to play to a camera crew all the time but I'm glad others do as I usually enjoy the films they make whether it be a solo effort such as Guarav Jani's Riding Solo to the Top of the World or a mega funded ride such as Ewan and Charlies.
Hmmmm... I'd go with a KLR I reckon, it's going to be a boring trip but I'll make it! The damn things are near bullet proof.
Honda CB500 or the modern equivalent as then they would have reasonably powerful bikes built for everyday driving. I didn't have an issue on previous trips with having admin support staff to arrange visa's etc as this can be a pain and very time consuming. However, a fleet of back-up vehicles with fully trained factory mechanics, sat phones, etc is not real world adventure touring in my opinion. Surely filming in the main obtained by Go-pro etc will add more realism and then let a video editor construct the programme at a later date.
I see your point mustaphapint, yes their films have definitely highlighted adventure trips and I suppose that can only be a good thing. McGregor seems fairly ok in them but that Boorman clown ... well, he's just a buffoon (in the mould of Boris Johnson) who seems to have led a charmed and privileged life and has an expectation that society is a servant to him. I remember one incident in a previous film where he absolutely balled out one of the support crew who had been sent to get camping cutlery prior to the trip and he came back with stainless steel instead of titanium. According to Boorman the weight was super important! Had he forgotten that he could always get the support crew to carry these incredibly heavy knives and forks??? Anyway, that says it all about him for me. Plus as buzzard said earlier he is reckless, careless and totally irresponsible in his actions.
