i've had my 900 EFI thruxton for 3 years, due to the fact it doesn't have a fuel guage,i thought it was about time i saw what it would do to a full tank of fuel,i got to 130 miles before the low fuel warning light appeared & went out,i was paranoid about running out so i bottled out & filled up at the next petrol station,i'm running 2 into 2 arrow's with-out the baffle's with the appropriate re-map,what should i get from a tank full.
How much did you put in last ? Do the maths ! Work out miles per gallon then multiply tank capacity by miles to gallons !?!?!?!
That's 210 klms I get close to 320/330 klms before warning lamp , on a 2009 America with 905 cc big bore kit & it's been "Tuned" on dyno cost me $520 that's just under £300 your money, I get 20 to 22•75 klm-ltr and America has 19 ltr tank!
My light comes on about 120 miles. I do pretty much the same journey on my commute each day, just some are more enthusiastic rides than others! I nervously got to 146 miles the other day before getting fuel, but even then it only took 12.77 litres.
Easy way to calculate.fill up and do 100 miles, fill again and check how may litres you’ve added, go on google and find the conversion table litres to uk gallons, multiply by how many litres you’ve added and Bob’s your uncle done.. instant MPG
London riding and my light comes on usually in the 70's. More often than not I'll refuel in the 90's and I think only ever once I've gone over 100 miles on one tank.
Nope. I've recently changed the exhaust but fuel consumption has remained the same. The one time I went over 100 miles on a tank was when I was motorway riding.
So, mpg wise, I'm guessing you're in the low-mid 30s? Your bike must be running very rich, or you ride like you stole it everywhere?!
Nope. Exhaust is the 2-1 exhaust from TEC who claim that no remapping is needed as long as the baffle is left in, which I've done. Bike gets the same miles as before I changed the exhaust anyway so if there is an issue, I don't think it's the exhaust. I always found the miles I got on this bike disappointing, I came from an old 125 Suzuki that was falling apart but would go for miles on a drop of fuel. It costs me more to fill this one up and get probably 15-20 miles less.
Have you hooked it up to TuneEcu to see what map it has? Might be worth a look as it may have an unsuitable map installed. A couple of people have ran maps for E25 fuels and these tend to run quite rich? If i get a chance and find the link to one guys experiance, i'll post it here.
I haven't no, I don't have one and it wasn't even on my mind the only time the bikes been in the garage. Would definitely like to find out though
No one with TuneEcu near you? I'd deffo have someone look and see what map its running. If its not suitable, load up one of the Arrow ones and see if anything changes and I hope/suspect it would.
My scrambler 900 of similar age does 130 to a tank before the fuel light comes on...recently got 144 out of her before hitting the petrol station!
Thruxtons seem to be a bit thirstier than other Bonnies, I reckon around 100-110 before the light comes on is around right for normal riding, increase or decrease for other types of riding. If you’re worried about fuelling check your plugs, if they’re really dark and sooty then there’s a problem. @Thruccy Sean town riding is going to reduce consumption by 10% plus hooleying and if you want tuneecu help pm me and we’ll sort it
