Im still getting used to my legand 900. Very comfortable and goes well. Sounds like a lancaster taxing down the runway However, must ask this question. The gear box seems to be quite clunky. Ive been told that's just the nature of the beast. I have found that it can be intermittent but generaly it is a bit clunky. Maybe im not used to the raw mechanics of a motorbike. I passed my test the same week as i bought the motorbike and i guess im still getting used to it. After all i am 67 yrs young going on 17! Any tips on the handling and gears would be most appreciated Ta ta
Also make sure the clutch is adjusted properly, it makes a big difference to the way the gears engage. Welcome in, nice job getting your first bike at 67.
Hello Neph and welcome to the Triumph Asylum - getting your first at 67, you'll do for me !!!! As others have said, change the oil for better gearbox working. The other thing to condition is changing gears (up) with a few more revs on, helps a lot to smooth things out. I just read out your intro to 'er indoors and the first thing she said? "He'll get a lot more out of his retirement with that "!!!!! Welcome in matey Cheers Dave
Thanks to you all for your welcoming. Re changing the oil. I bought the bike from a reputable dealer in Derby. I know a good sevice was bone on the bike befor i collected it so i assume the oil is ok. What grade of oil would you suggest and do you mean addjust at the hand leaver ?
If they serviced the bike it should have the correct oil and yes the adjustment is done at the lever, aim for 3 to 4mm free play and you should be fine. It’s just to make sure that the clutch isn’t always under tension and that when you pull the lever the clutch fully disengages so the gears go in smoothly.

Thanks ill check the leaver and maybe change the ojl. But if they already did that i dont want to waist it and the money
Welcome!! Clunky gearchange could be due to too much play in the drive chain. Not sure what it should be but it's around 3.5 - 4.0 cm on my Trident.
