Ok so yet another issue with the 06 Daytona 675 Took the bike to work this evening a 5 min ride from home to work all was ok Got on the bike to come home Within 3 min the temp gage went right to the end the fan was going mental and the engine light came on I pulled over turned it all off and started again this time it struggled to start without me giving it some throttle same issue temp gage right up and engine light on I’ve disconnected the battery which is perfect as it’s always on a battery conditioner in the hope it might reset itself Not sure how much more I can take Thanks in advance
Sounds like thermostat problem probably caused by this freak weather that we are having. Just a thought..
A bit odd though as it wasn’t that hot this evening and she rode all day Monday and Tuesday I’ve filled her up 4 times in 2 days Could fuel be a issue ??
Fuel won't cause overheat which is what you are describing. Still think stat area to be investigated.
As said before a thermostat can fail anytime, if it was fuel related I doubt it would have heated up as fast.
Thanks to you all I will check all those And you can rest assure I won’t be asking how good old you tube for that It does bloody frustrate me though and I love her to bits look after clean and service her Again cheers

Smilinjack When you say the thermostat is a easy fix do you mean that I can service that part or it’s easy to replace Sorry to be pain Yourself and dozer have been a great help from the start
I understand your frustration, I am building a bike from a few boxes of bits. it can drive you mad at times. Help is here though, I agree with the other posters that have suggested a stuck thermostat. They can get a build up of deposits on them which stops them from opening, which causes the problem you have described. Don't despair, it's most likely a simple fix. Best of luck.
Also I can’t seem to find the thermostat on world of triumph parts Dora’s anyone have a link to it Many thanks

A quick update just spoke to the main dealership where I baught it to see if they had said stat Just cos I’m a impatient child He said he doesn’t think it’s the stat cos no coolant has been used I.e the coolant level hasn’t dropped he thinks it’s a temp sensor I can’t remember what one he said But I have ordered the new stat and seal and will change no matter what Just wondering what your thoughts are on that ?
Ok Brilliant I’ve stolen the infrared thermometer from work I’m gunna check all the levels this afternoon with the bike cold then going to run it while checking the rad temp so if the display temp goes racing up and the rad is cold or warm has to be the stat right New one is on order with the seal Cheers jack and all for your patience
And also am I right in saying that if the rad does get very hot it’s not the stat and could be the sensor?
Just as a sanity check there are 4 common things that can cause an overheat or look like an over heat - low coolant, faulty thermostat, faulty fan switch and faulty instrumentation. to find out which one you need to run some checks. 1. if the radiator is cold but the engine is overheating it's almost certainly the thermostat. The stat switches the flow of water on and off. It stops water flow when the engine is cold so it gets to operating temperature quickly then regulates the temperature by turning flow through the radiator on and off. This is why it. important to check the radiator temperature as well as the engine temperature. 2. Faulty fan switch, the switch is in thermal contact with the side of the radiator, it should switch the fan on at 96 degrees ie just before boiling point. It will usually only operate in heavy traffic where there is insufficient air travelling through the radiator to keep temperatures down. Mine has just failed, I tested it by removing it and putting it in a pan on the stove. A faulty fan will give the same symptoms, to check if it 's one or the other, disconnect the thermo switch wires and short them together with a piece of wire or paper clip. If the fan runs it's the switch faulty, if it doesn't it's the fan or possibly fuse. 3. Faulty instrumentation. If your gauge is in the red yet there is not coolant boiling over then either the sender or the gauge is faulty. Only way to tell is with a DVM set to measure resistance, as the engine heats up the resistance will change. 4. Coolant - easiest one to check - have a look in your expansion bottle, if it's low top it up - always us an anti freeze / water mix, if you use water only you will increase the likelihood of it freezing in winter. Hope that helps.
So a interesting update just started up perfect and ran on the drive for 10 mins she heated up and the rad heated up and at just over 100c (the rad) the fan kicked in baught the temp down then the fan stopped as it’s done it’s job no overheating not on the dash the fluid or the rad But Still have the check engine light on So are we thinking still a stat problem (maybe intermittent) Ive ordered the parts so might as well change it still All input is highly appreciated
Cool I’ve done 4 cycles now allowing to cool then running till hot all the time checking the rad fluid and engine temp The engine light has gone out and it’s not running hot as in the temp gage is fine the rad goes to about 105 then the fan kicks in coolant is all good Now I’m at a lost end Could it have just been a gremlin
