I'll try to do some tomorrow, it's chaos in the workshop now. I'm thinking I may turn one in to a cafe racer as somebody has already cut the frame about a fair bit. Looks like I may be able to get one standard bike and one cafe racer with just a few bits missing. I cleaned the carbs today but work got in the way so that's all I got done. I still have one engine on the van, will get that off tomorrow.

For all of those that like pictures - here are some. I am trying to work out exactly what the hell I have here, some of it is clearly not for either of the bikes I have, some is broken, some I just can't identify right now. I have a Haynes manual arriving, which I will read and inwardly absorb, most things should then make sense. Be ready for numerous questions as I am not at all familiar with these bikes. Bit surprised to see - for example - that you can't get the engine final drive sprocket off without draining the engine oil first. Shocking :) Anyway - pictures! The second one is of the project I have just done - a 1983 Honda 750 Magna. I only included it in case someone saw part of it and went - wassat then?

I have copies of the full v5's and the 2 green slips. Looking at them one bike was first registered in May of '92, the other August 92. I have heard of them being a bit top heavy, I guess that's down to the big old spine frame sitting pretty high.

If the instruments are anything to go by you haven't even got one Sprint, they're Trident clocks.
Also my engine was painted a much darker graphite grey colour, not sure if that was true for all Sprints.
.....Anyway minor detail with the task you have there.

    Yeah
The only clocks I currently have are on the trident, I don't have any clocks for the sprint. I don't have the original headlight for the trident but I do have an after market twin set that fit in the after market fairing I have. I tried to find the parts to put it back to standard but it doesn't look like it's going to be easy. I'm going to take it all to bits now that I know the engine runs and put it all back together as each bit is cleaned, repaired or replaced. I think I should get one decent bike for not too much more money, I will probably sell the remaining bits. I have a load more stuff arriving so i will wait and see how the land lies before making any more decisions.

NOT meaning to be sarcastic but my curiosity needs to know. Are you a hoarder (the show is fascinating) or a moto savant? Best of luck to you.
If 1 or both run again my helmet is off to you & I envy the skill that can make it happen.

LOL, I am a bit of a hoarder and also a constant fiddler that needs to be building or fixing something. I have built 3 cars from scratch but always missed the bikes of my younger days. I got bored in the winter and rebuilt a crashed Honda Hornet, I enjoyed it so much I decided to do another one - a 1983 Honda Magna that was very much unloved. I enjoyed that one so much I bought these 2 basket cases and have been offered a third - this time with a knackered clutch - don't know yet if the owner means main clutch or sprag clutch. It will probably be coming home with me either way. I will be making at least 1 decent bike out of the first two, I am starting to take it apart now. I have ordered tons of bits - watch this space.

Welcome in. Nice pile of bits you have there - Good Luck!!!

I see you are in Boston or thereabouts. Clive Woods is near to you - Triumph tech extraordinaire. He helped develop the Speed 3 race bikes for the Speed Triple series in the 90's and knows the bikes inside out.
It's a bit too late for you this year, but over the winter he does a T300 course at his workshop. It costs around £75 for the day (Breakfast and lunch included) and it's worth every penny.
And If there isn't one in your bucket of spares arriving soon, I think i have a rear break caliper in my collection soemwhere.

Funnily enough I do need one, I don't have one for either bike. I think the Trident one is different to the Sprint one, I need one of each. Let me know if you find it and would like to exchange it for beer tokens. I also need a center stand, rear brake caliper stay, rear mudguards for both bikes, aux air boxes for the trident and rear footpeg hangers. Something tells me that list will most likely grow :)

I will need to have a dig in the shed - I have a selection of bits collected over the years - mostly for the Trophy, but lots of bits are interchangable. I may have front calipers too, as the first thing I do is junk the solid disc (have a pair of those) and replace with Daytona stoppers as the early Trophy ones are shite.

I have front calipers, my discs are vented so I assume they are later ones. It's only the rear caliper that I don't have.
