Ello all ... figured i'd better do an oil change on the old girl as she hasn't had one since I got her back. Book says .. dry engine/new filter .. 4 litres 10w/40 ... drained the old out ... filter swop etc all good ... stuck in 4 litres as stated ... cant see the oil level in the window ... but as I as disposing (legally) of the old oil I realised theres near on 7 litres come out ... am I missing something ? That's a big old difference

    She's a 2000 955i

I had a 2002 Daytona 955i a few years back which had a dipstick to check the oil with. I guess something changed between '00 and '02. However, 4 litres will be plenty for an oil/filter change - unless that's changed as well!!

A 2000 955i should hold 4 to 4•5 litres , higher amount if filter done and bike was left to drain fully, almost all triumph variants between 92 and 2005 took 4 litres or so, Did you top up oils regularly ? As that could explain some of the 7 litres that came out , I never needed to top up my 94 trident or my 99 and 2000 Sprint's between oil changes/services.

Are you measuring litres in and pints out? You should need a smidgen under 4 litres.

something's far wrong there its overfilled bike if 7litres came out that's a definite, you say since you got it back ? Got back from where and when,if you had checked level previous what was level? In sight glass i assume that model is meant to have a sight glass ?,if it is meant to have one it must be halfway up glass surely an online manual is easy to download free.

    Is the engine standard?
Maybe 4 ltrs has filled past the sight window and you're not used to seeing clean engine oil in there?
Have you ridden the bike,... the only way I can imagine getting 7 ltrs in there is if some scrote nicked all the gears out your gearbox.:joy:

Defo 100% should not have 7 litres in it. Even most big capacity diesel cars do t have a capacity as large as that

Chances are last service the mechanic renewed engine oil, was distracted, dragged off to assist a colleague, or tea break, then on his/her return filled the oil again. Not picked up coz sight glass no longer clear. Just a theory.
