Hi Good people of the Triumph forum.

As a newbie at this biking, I wonder if you can help me by taking a look at the attached picture of an oil leak on my 2012 speedmaster. Is this an easy fix for me to do? I was wondering if it was just a case of taking this cover off and replacing a gasket or something? As i dont know what it is and what lies behind it, I don't want to go ahead and bits spring out all over the place. Any info muchly apreaciated.

 Hopefully mate you might not have an oil leak :)
That cover with the ribs on it is the front sprocket cover
Take it off and you’ll hopefully find it’s just a build up of chain oil that’s seeping through :)
Give the area a good clean out and you should be ok :)
You can check visually behind the sprocket for oil coming out of the seal but like I said it looks like a build up of chain lube to me :)
Let us know how you get on mate :p

One of the first things I do when I get a new bike, is remove sprocket cover and clean out the 'snot' that accumulated there. Usually a disgusting mix of oil and that foul no fling spray glue people insist using

Thanks, that no fling spray glue you mentioned, is it pale white looking? As that was the colour on my chain when I got the bike.

    That'll be it.
IMHO a mix of oil painted on with a paintbrush and excess wiped off is far superior. More work, but chain and sprocket replacement cost plus time fitting is a lot more!!!

On another subject Dilligaf, I came accross a post of yours on the rear shocks being a tad hard, mine is the same, how have you got on with your new ones long term bud?

    Vast improvement Tel :grinning:
I’m sure there’s better ones out there with more adjustment offered but it’s a cruiser at the end of the day and for the money I couldn’t be happier :grinning:
Anything will be better than the stock ones

Funny you should say that as when i got the bike it has these pipes already fitted, they sound nice but I have no idea what make they are. It also came with the orignals too.

They look like Triumph off road silencers (TORS) with some sort of end caps fitted
Be interesting to know can you see if the end caps are removable????

The end caps look like they just slip over but have a couple of little tack welds underneath where you can't see them.

    Just been looking again Tel:)
That end cap shape?...is that the shape of the exhaust?
By that I mean is the exhaust round or oval?
TORS are round so if they’re oval they’re not TORS

    Hi Dilli
They are the same oval shape as the end cap, just had a look and there isn't any markings at all on the end caps, maybe someone was a bit skilled with metal work.
