Now I have most blue blooded males reading this and it's probably not to everyone's taste, but over in Woking close to home is the site of a pair of Peregrine Falcon's.
I've watched them for the past couple of years, lay their eggs and raise their chicks until they fledge.
There's been some very comical moments and also a few sadder one's, but fascinating never the less.
There have been Peregrine's nesting in the town centre for a number of years and thanks to modern technology it's now something we can all enjoy.

Anyway, for those that may be interested here's the link..... http://woking-shopping.co.uk/entertainment/falcons/

Hope you enjoy taking a look.

    Brian......aka TBB.

These two are smack bang in the middle of town, it was kept a bit of a secret for a number of years for obvious reasons.
I live as the crow flies, no pun intended, less than a 1k from the town centre and to the north west, and directly at the back of my place are around 10/15 acres of football pitches and hockey pitches and we almost daily have Red Kites and Buzzards soring and calling to each other.
This has become the norm over the past few years, the Kites in particular fly very low at times on the hunt, it's quite surprising how large they actually are.

I was told a few years ago by an old gamekeeper that the Kites have slowly made their way up from Wales using the M4 corridor to hunt along, quite feasible I suppose, although I can't somehow see them thumbing a lift ;)

    Still enough waffle from me.

I don't know if this is of interest? This video is from the re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings and was one of the bits of entertainment laid on, awesome day out and awesome birds! :)

Thanks for that Brian, I love all birds of prey and last year when I was lorry driving I used to see buzzards daily along the M180 sat on the fences beside the carriageway and red kites as I went along the A43 towards Corby. I used to try to time it so I had my tacho break on there just to watch them. Anyway, we have our own peregrine’s in Sheffield, (which I’d forgotten about til now)
Great pics by your son, Jack.

I've watched these for a number of years now.
Lady, reputed to be the oldest breeding Osprey reached an estimated age of 24/25 years or so.
I think it was the year before last that she never return to the nest site sadly, so must have finally succumbed to old age.
They also operate a tracking programme where they attach a small transmitter the young birds, you can then watch their journey down to Senegal

    This is worth a look.....http://www.gigrin.co.uk/

Living in Wycombe means I get to see Red Kites soaring overhead every day. So graceful.

If we get a dead pigeon (window strike) or rat (me skewering them with a garden fork in the compost heap) I put them on the roof of the shed. Within 5 minutes a Kite will swoop in and carry it off. Amazing to watch. They are very good at clearing up roadside carrion and the amount of kites around here means we hardly ever see a rabbit or pheasant left on the roadside for very long.
