Am I the only owner of a 900 carb Tiger that uses the forum. Quite surprised a the lack of any recent posts concerning the fantastical beasts. Isn't even a prefix to use for the 900.
You could be unique!! Better than being just plain common! Thebiglad, of this parish, used to have one. He liked it.
I did read somewhere they were not very popular in the UK but sold well in Europe...where ever that is. Hopefully there will be a few fellow steamer owners coming forward
Your engine is basically the same as mine, give or take a bit of tuning, if that helps. Europe, I think you'll find, is several miles to the east of Hull. And these are steamers ...... ..... albeit slightly different ones to those to which you refer. I hope that all this is helpful to you. Thought not. Ah well .... hat , coat, door .... Look, I am trying. Everybody says so, therefore it must be right.
Good luck with the Tiger hunt. They are becoming hard to find these days. I never see more than a couple up for sale at the same time, but if your son is determined to have one just keep scanning ebay gumtree newsnow. Once again best of luck and keep me posted.
New to the group but you’re not alone now. I have a 900 too & mine is beautiful, I love her and would never let her go.
A bit late in catching up. Ah, The Vital Spark. I look back on fondness at those tales depicted on BBC in black and white of the intrepid steamer skippered by that rascal Para Handy.
Welcome to the forum. As said in older post, your engine is basically the same as my Sprint, keep your battery in good condition to avoid sprag clutch problem, if it goes you will need a full engine strip. It is only the very early T300 range that have an easy access hatch to access the starter. Nice bike.
The recent 'bump' of this thread prompted me to pop in and say "HI ALL" because I also own, love and would never sell my "steamer". Like Jim's mine is a very early one with the colour coded case covers - something Triumph did only in the first year (or less?) of Tiger 900 production I think, after which the engine case covers were co-ordinated to the engine finish. A rare('ish) beast, Jim - don't let her go! I bought my blue Tiger (a '93 or '94, can't remember) from a guy in Swansea - the first owner - in about '98, I think. It was very low mileage and was in absolutely pristine, standard condition. I've since put a pair of "crash bars" on it - just as well ..... I'm shrinking rapidly from an already diminished stature of 5ft 6ins and getting on and off the thing is, to say the least, a challenge. The bars came from New Zealand and make the already semi-agricultural look, even more ..... ermmmm .... agricultural? It's certainly not a "pretty bike" in the 'pink and fluffy' sense but has appealed to me since I saw an early model in the main dealer showroom and was told it was far too big for me - I'd already bought a brand new Trident 900 (which I still have) from them but couldn't stretch to another new bike at that time. Still, all worked out in the end! I'm always interested in the use of the word "steamer". For quite some time - between 2006 and 2014 - I was on a yahoo 'group' (triumphtiger@yahoogroups) - a sort of precursor to proper forums, I suppose - dedicated to Hinckley Tigers. A very active member on there by the name of Preston KEMP was, I believe, the first to coin the term "steamer" to describe the early carburated models and "girlies" to describe the early update models with the softer design lines and "eyebrow" graphics on the front fairing. Happy to be corrected if that's not the real genesis of the term, but it's certainly how I recall it. And, if anybody knows Preston, can you let him know that I'm hoping those Tiger bits I bought from him way back when are still stored in his garden shed............ Haven't ridden my Tiger for many years - it's been in storage with my other bikes for about 6 years following separation, divorce and all of the attendant mess. I'm hoping that we'll be re-united very soon, certainly this year, so I'll post some pics then. keep it sunny side up if you're foolish enough to be out there!! Regards, Adie
its a Bagster seat but to be honest, I inherited the bike from my dad and I’m not sure where he got it? I can say with some certainty that it is a hell of a lot more comfortable that the original seat!!! I went to Italy on the back when I was about 15 with the original and my overwhelming memory was praying for a petrol station so I could get off the thing. Don’t have that trouble with this seat.
