Hi everyone, I just bought my 2009 speed triple last week, and I'm just finishing up my DAS full licence course, module 1 on Friday. Been reading a lot about bikes getting nicked around the London area and frankly I'm crapping myself about security. The Almex chains seam to be the business with the squire lock, any advice would be much appreciated. Plus I got a crazy cheap quote with wicked quotes is anyone with them? Be great to meet up with speed triple owners around my area for rides and stuff I know I've still got loads to learn. Cheers
Hi and welcome to the forum and good look finishing DAS. Speed Triple is quite a a machine for a first bike, just take it easy for a while getting used to it.
Thanks Rich, I know I've jumped into the deep end with the speed triple, but I'm a big guy 6'4 and 37 years old the street just wasn't working for me, but I hear what your saying. Going to be taking it real easy for a long time, thinking about doing some more advanced riding courses after my DAS. And hopefully going out for rides with people from this forum and learning a thing or two. See you around!
As far a security, the best chain and lock you can afford and a ground anchor at home. Alarms and immobilisers are close to useless and are often the cause of your own breakdown or flat battery. At the end of the day if its parked in a public area even with a chain bikes are easily picked up and put in a van
Welcome to the forum nice looking triple you have got there. Yes the Speed Triple is a big bike but it is also a very easy bike to ride at any speed as the engine is so good. There are some great spots for biking down in Surrey and Hampshire, Newlands Corner near Guildford and Loomies near Alton are good places to ride out for lunch in the weekends, there is also Box Hill but I tend to stay away as there are too many idiots that tend to frequent there. Cheers for the tips Steve, my bike is actually at Destination triumph in Guilford. I'll have to check out the roads while I'm up there. Passed my module 1 today in the worst weather possible! Not long now.

Ok so I passed my test on Friday!! I picked up my baby this morning, I my god!! What an absolute monster she is. The first hour was very intimidating especially building up the confidence on the corners, plus it was raining so I was especially cautious. I think I must have rode her for 5 hours so far today. The last couple of hours felt much better, But Im just gonna enjoy the honeymoon period and take it easy. I did notice while riding in Central London the radiator kept coming on all the time or fans?? Have to work now till 9:30. Can't wait to ride her back home tonight.
Congrats on passing your test Don't worry about the fan coming on in traffic, they do that when you get stuck behind cars in town. Here's hoping that we start seeing a bit of sun for a change :wink:
Welcome to the forum. Good luck with taking it easy, :wink: but try your best - it's very tempting not to! Ease yourself in, if you can - if you do (and I strongly recommend your idea of taking further training, RoADAR is about the best you can get) not only will you live longer but you'll actually enjoy your riding more. Congratulations on passing your test, not sure city traffic is the best place to fully enjoy the bike, you will get the cooling fans kicking in quite a lot as not enough air is flowing through the radiator due to you going slowly. Have fun with the bike, what Bry says above makes sense with on going training. Think the only thing I would add to that is if you do end up doing any group riding with faster riders, do not be tempted into trying to keep up if they are going faster than you are happy with. A good group will put their less experienced riders near the front of a group.
Cheers Rich, Yeah I've been finding myself getting frustrated in the city traffic. So when I have a free couple of hours I've been taking her into the country roads near Sevenoaks and Edenbridge, I was actually there today, So much fun!!! Cant believe how quick she gets up to silly speeds, starting to feel a lot more comfortable leaning her into corners this week, I still sometimes struggle on tight corners or small roundabouts at slow speed but I know its all about clutch and throttle control and I'm slowly getting the hang of it. The first few days I was filling her up everyday. But Im getting use to riding in a less aggressive way and its been 3 days since she's had a drink which is cool. Definitely doing a Bike safe course with the police next month. I think I'll wait a few months till I ride in a group though, I'm too competitive. Removed the front fairing this weekend and there's so much less wind!!?? Really weird..:upyeah: Feels a lot safer on the motorway doing 70. With the fairing it felt like someone was pushing my chest.
Nice pic, looks better without the fairing :smile: I'm new to biking myself (6 weeks) so know how you feel, I always feel I'm too slow going round roundabouts, and drivers behind are willing me to hurry up, does anyone else ever feel this? or used to feel this? I'm getting a bit quicker now though, also bends are getting better, I'm more confident with countersteering, I've overshot slightly twice, heart skipped a beat, but learnt from it, I think it was a combination of slightly too fast on approach and taking my eyes off where I was wanting the bike to go... definitely a learning curve, but great fun! :biggrin:
I have the same feeling on the randabouts, but they are starting to become less frequent . Looking where you want to go really helps me when I think I'm not going to make is turn, funny when you nearly poop your pants when you've rushed it.!:tongue:
