Anyone had trouble with Tiger 800 chain adjusters snapping due to corrosion.My brother Tiger 800 chain adjusters snap of and he has been told he needs a new swinging arm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Evidently this common on the Tiger 800 due to the fact the chain adjuster are made of steel and the swinging arm is alloy and hence the corrosion.I also have a Tiger 800 and fingers crossed mine are OK at the moment but I am a bit nervous about adjust them in fear of them snapping off !!!!!!!!!!
If you wait it will be worse. take your time plenty of lube penetrating spray soak it overnight a couple of times before you start. do it every night for a week if you can. I wouldn’t say it’s a common problem, a few Tiger800 forum members have experienced this problem. A new swinging arm??? remove the swinging arm and any good engineering company showed be able to remove the snapped bolts if you don’t feel confident in doing the job yourself. Had my 13reg 800xc from new and never had a problem, but what I do occasionally is spray a liberal coating of ACF50 inside the swinging arm towards the adjusting bolts through the rectangular cut outs on the inside of the swinging arm. Some peeps have replaced the oem bolts for stainless bolts.
I noticed that my adjusters came back from the last (12000 mile) service liberally coated in Copperslip grease.
Its inside the Swingarm where the lube needs to be. They were just making it look good. The only true fix is to fit stainless "keenserts" and stainless bolts
Got bored over Christmas so I removed the back wheel ,took the chain adjuster out smothered both chain adjusters with cooper grease ,sprayed that ACF 40 all over them and replace them in the swinging arm and replaced the rear wheel .Job done .On the left adjuster there was signs of corrosion starting to form so a good job done .Roll on the summer and I am off to the Isle Of Mann TT then in July of to Poland then in August of to the South Of France on the trusted Tiger Finger crossed should be a good year .Mind you it is well over due .Had a few health scares in the last 2 years but hopefully thing will get better in 2018
I've just discovered one of mine is seized today ! The chain side one is fine, but the other side is nearly solid, i managed to get it moving a little bit by spraying it with WD40 and and got it going a couple of threads out then back in, i was able to tighten the chain a little. I'm gonna have to keep an eye on it now, so will do it again in a day or two to see if i can wind it out a bit further. GRRR
I managed to snap one of mine not the chain side but the other with the big hole where all the crud get inside the swinging arm , any way I got an engineering shop to spark erode the broken bolt about £50 including a new bolt

First thing i did was Cooperslip, my adjusters as ive had problems in the past. No way he needs a new swingarm. A drill and tap would sort that out. If you cant do that his self just take it to a local machine shop.
I had another bash at it today, and i bottled out of it. I managed to get it moving about 1/8th of a turn, in and out, but i could see the bolt starting to twist so decided i'm gonna have to leave it to someone with bigger hammers than me. I've been spraying it with plusgas for 2 days , and it's barely made any difference. I will take it to one of my local bike dealers who i trust will do a good job...
What's your opinions on riding the bike with only one chain adjuster ? I've snapped one, so parked it in the garage until it can be repaired, but a couple of my workmates are of the opinion i will still be able to use it, what do you guys think ?
For me , why not? As long as the wheel nut or nuts (dont know about your bike) are tight and the chain tension is ok, but then I am a bit of a cowboy. Yee haa. Lol
chain tension is spot on, spindle is super tight, BUT, there's a 1.5cm gap between the right hand adjuster and the spindle - due to the bolt snapping when trying to free it off... i'm tempted to ride it, i must admit
I wouldn't have a problem riding it like that. Would check all was well after a short spin just to make sure nothing had moved.
