Oh dear Clarke, liquid lunch in order today methinks!
Bit of bad luck with the drive shaft/cup, but the bloody stand, that's just F***ing dangerous.
What SWL is it rated at ?

Neat grinding job and definitely easier to drill out now.

Ha yes your not wrong! I'm currently looking for the order to see what it is but in my head it's 250kg?

I simply had to finish with a small win so pleased with the grinding!

Could be my mistake as looks like 75kg? What's the engine weigh?

If a complete bike weighs in at for example 230 kgs wet - I would guess the engine weighs 100-ish kgs so I would want an engine stand capacity of perhaps 200 kgs to ensure security.

Not up to the job Clarkey, looking at that.
I would agree with biglad, the engine will be at least 100kg so SWL wants to be at least double that.

Ok after the last disaster with my engine stand I ordered a more substantial one. Problem is it's for car engines so adapting was needed!

I used 3mm angle iron to make a fixing point. It's not ideal as it's a lot of weight on those engine mounts/casings all on one side of the engine.
I've made sure the angle iron doesn't put pressure on the casing. Can see in photo I hope.

Also it was a pain to attach it to so engine is slightly canted over but not by much.

I will probably fashion a prop just to take the weight the mounting side of the engine when it's stored for long periods.

Yes, I think I would Clarkey, its an awful lot of weight hanging on a casting that has not been designed for that.
I would do that immediately even if it was a temporary piece of 3" x 2" bashed under to support it.

Look at fabricating something to fasten to the shorter wheel strut that can be adjusted and bolted in position to support the engine.

Don't worry it's done, I just didn't add a picture of it. Might have to buy a little welder for the finished article.

    Hi,

I’ve not done anything to this in a while so at least I haven’t broken anything else! I’m keen to get started again and want to degrease and remove loose paint etc from the engine. I assume a generic engine degreaser will work and wire brush for paint. Are there any good tips people who have done this used and also what paint did people use to repaint the engine? TIA

Thanks very much. Great pictures and gives me a good idea how to go about it. I will post the results when I’ve done it.

Wow, its been a looong time since i did anything! Feeling much more enthused now since returning from Clive Woods T300 engine course. Part of the problem was me faffing with engine stands and also little problems with the engine like my sheared alternator shaft. Anyway just needed a sturdy table and away we go!

Today i split the cases to get to see the state of the engine visually and check the alternator shaft had not left anything behind inside. Also removed the sprag as i was there. I dont know the history of the engine so will probably change the sprag.

Visually to me things look good.
