Probably be on a Speed Triple here as well. I guess it depends on what format the tour is taking, if it's moving on every day, so you have carry your luggage, then something more practical is better. But if it's a defined base of operations, then a little bit of inconvenience will soon be forgotten once the luggage is dumped and the local roads hit on the Speed Although I could always cheat and take it on the trailer....
I thought it might be something like that, unfortunately. The images in my brain - aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!
After doing over a thousand miles during and after the GMU this year on the TB in the pissing rain, I think i manned up and decided the GTR was more practical .
So here is the latest list :- andypandy Roadrider tigcraft tcbandituk Smilinjack Ken Walburn Gazwhitespeed Bonniecat Steve Lovatt Winglad Wessa (possible attendee depending on final location Rooster (depending on where, when, how long and no camping) figwold Tiglet (depends when, not bothered where) Rich Bryce Crispey Odinz
So is the plan a central hotel and various rides from there?Germany looks great off the beaten track.Ive been before but just motorways hohum.
Sounds good to me, get there, get rid of the luggage and have fun. It also means if someone can't do the whole trip, they know where to go to meet up.
Andy I think if it's you or whoever is running with this just needs to put a few stakes in the ground, similar to the GMU. Dates, country and location and if it suits members they will go and if it doesn't suit they don't go. It will be impossible to cater for everyone's wishes.
Hi Tig! I am just in the process of talking/mailing to our two favorite places in the Harz and the Eifel. Andy and me will keep you updated about our progress! Cheers!
Ultimately you have stepped up to the plate so tailor the trip to your requirements and see who agrees. I don't think you'll have a problem with support. Let me know what assistance you require
The whole idea of people being able to join an leave at different stages is great as I know I won't be able to do more than 6 days probably. And: "if you plan it they will come!" Or was it build it?
OK, so far then Daniel (Winglad) has heard off Harmonie:- Hi Andy! Just reached the place in the Harz (Harmonie): They only have a small time window for a group like us left. Which is from the 17th, to the 22nd of June. During this time, they can offer 5 Twin rooms and 2 apartments (those have 2 beds + an additional third, if needed). Rates are like on the homepage but they offer a reduction if we stay 4 days min. I have not reached the Eifel place yet by phone: might have to try mail. But I guess, if we want to go to the Harz, we should be fairly quick in the decision making process. The lady said it is mostly the British who have booked already, because it is them who know their vacation slots well ahead unlike us Germans... She also noted, that they speak English quite well if you decided to call or mail. I keep trying the Eifel! Cheers Since then he's heard off the place in the Eiffel. They are on holiday but will let us know soon. The place in the Eiffel is http://www.bikerhotelgermany.com/ I've previously said this is in the Moselle, I'm getting older by the day and more confused. It may be in both for all I know. Daniel can surely clear this up. Anyway it's in Bad Bertrich. The other place is http://biker-hotel-harz.de/en/your-biker-hotel-harz-mountains-germany/ It's in Bad Grund. I propose meeting at the motel in Bad Bertrich (in September now as per the latest poll). I will stay there for four nights then go home. Those who want to can go on to Bad Grund. I might change my mind before booking my ferry and do the whole trip. Some people can afford more time away than others. My ferry route would be Hull - Rotterdam (cabins are £98 each way - so pairing up and sharing cabins makes a good saving) Both motels provide good biking routes and are well used to accommodating British bikers. There are great roads, pretty sights, historic sights, beer, wine, bratwurst etc etc. What's not to like ? PS I'm assuming there will be enough room in Bad Grund in Sept, there won't be as many of us.
