hi, My name is Paul and I come from South Wales in the U.K. I ride a 2013 Tiger 1050 sport. Looking for some feed back on the following are the 1050 sport prone to using oil? No external leakage and it does not show signs of it burning oil? The motorcycle shop are trying to say it is normal to top up the oil, currently using around 1/2 litre every 600 mile. Been riding for almost 40 years never had a bike use this much oil?
You don't say how many miles your bike has done, only it's age. However, whatever the mileage that oil consumption sounds much to high to me. The two Triumphs I've had (Bonny T100 & Tiger 955i) over the last six years have used almost no oil at all, in between 6000 mls service intervals. Before you start launching into an investigation have you made sure that the bike is in the identical position and using the exactly same method for measuring the oil level. For example : 1. The bike needs to be absolutely upright when measuring the level; 2. The dipstick needs to be screwed right home to get the correct level.
Current mileage is 16k, they are currently checking the valves as I told them they can have the bike back. If they told me it would be using that much oil when I bought it the sale would never had happened
The bike is currently with the bike shop where they are now checking the valves. Looking at other possible causes since I told them they could have the bike back Current mileage 16k. Always checked the oil as above.
Hi amd welcome.... I've had the 1050 and never used oil at that kind of rate; I think there is definitley a problem. Wessa
Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you bike is using to much oil. I have a 2011 Speed Triple with 17.5k on it. I've only had to top the oil up once between services...Good luck with getting it sorted.
