Mr h my other bike is my DR... The wife is very understanding but 3 bikes for pleasure is maybe pushing my luck. ?.
I have read loads about the S1000R Sport and it does sound like a cracking bike, good equipment as standard, mental fast & should be comfy. Also it seems a bargain at £11390 on the road - compared to the KTM1290 £13999 and the Tuono £12295 and dare I even say the Speed R! knocking on the door of £11k I know most dealers will have room for a bit of discount but even so the price looks spot on! I've been to my local BMW dealer and they do seem a friendly bunch of motorcycle enthusiasts - I will certainly be test riding an S1000R when they have one. :upyeah:
Found a review of the S1000r that wasn't MCN (cannot stand those idiots) sounds like it is a good bike (still looks bloody ugly) but sounds like you would have to go for the sports model. This bike along with the KTM 1200 and the Aprilia Turono are more or less Hyper Naked bikes as opposed to the Triumph, Honda and the like that would be called super naked bikes.
Good choice SB, it's gets good reviews and if you get the sport version it's got everything. I am tempted myself, I think it will need some sort of screen otherwise it's gonna get tiring hanging onto 160bhp ! The only thing I don't like about the looks is that huge collector box on show underneath, and BMW servicing costs !
SB it will be interesting to see what a BMW dealer offers you for the speed, what's your mileage and are you going to put it back to stock condition.
Explorer I have mates who have BMW bikes and servicing is no worse than a Honda or Triumph.... Parts are also quite cheap... my mate with the S 1000rr damage his top fairing.. I think it was £125 all in.... Honda wanted £64 for a front indicator when I had a cbr600....
Good question.... going to look at part ex and if I do that then I will most likely put it back to standard.. Ideally I would like to sell it privately as I hope I may get a bit more for it... Had a look on bike trader and not sure what I can get, hope it's about 10K, with the extras.. Bike has about 4600 miles on it as I did 3 tours on it last year..
Mine now has over 12,000 on it (it only had 6,000 when I bought it at the end of May - and I've hardly been on it!). I think the main thing that I love about the SIII is the characteristics of the triple engine. I'd find it hard to go back to a 4 now, I think. And it's plenty fast enough for the way I ride - you've seen some vids.
The optional Akrapovic exhaust gets rid of the big 'ol box - makes it look sooooo much better :upyeah: The headlight is still fugly though!!
Not had the 2nd service yet.. Not a year old and it's not done 6K miles... It's only had a 1st service and I've changed the oil as an extra at 3K.
Not sure which vids you are referring too.. The ones you sent me you were in a gimp mask,,, yes you were quite fast (read quick)... And I'm not sure she would appreciate being called a bike....
SB If you are going to trade the S3 in I would suggest putting it back to standard as the buggers only look at book price and never take into account any extras. I got £110 selling my ASV levers of my 2009 Fireblade on E Bay so it can be worth it. Also when I sold my Speed Triple there were people who would E Mail you saying that they were overseas with the forces and that they would send you the money via Paypal and pay the fees for the bike, this is a scam so be wary of them. Cheers Stephen
SB you might find this interesting, called in at my local BMW dealer today and decided to test the water so to speak and asked for a trade in price for the dark speed against a 1000rr! He would only give me book price of 6500 and suggested I sell it privately ! I don't know if all dealers will be the same it will be interesting to see.
SB, seen this one on ebay? 291054289411 not many miles? or this link may be better? 2013 TRIUMPH SPEED TRIPLE R 1050 DARK LIMITED EDTION | eBay Anyone on here? as far as I know theres only you and Explorer who has a 'Dark' on here?
I got the same trade in price... But they said they will try some others... problem is its January the worst time to sell a bike so trade in value will be crap. .. He gave me 2 quotes for trade in and the £6500 was the best.... and it's a £11.5K bike. .. How can it lose nearly 50% in a year... what a load of bollocks. ... Worst case I'll borrow some money and keep it for a few months and sell it a bit later... can't afford a 6K hit....
