Hi there is there a way of getting resonably priced valve shims.Ive not had to shim a engine before and seems excessively high price for such a regular activity. Also ive a states brought super 111 head that has all inlet and exhaust clearances of 5 thou and 8 thou respectivly. The only clearance specs i can find are 10 thou and 15 thou ??? It seems the head ive got has been adjusted to those clearances? Anyone know any different. Cheers
You will probably find that you only need to fit a few new shims as you can swap them round to correct the clearances, last time I did shims I had to replace 2 out of the 8 ( yam xj650 ) to bring them all back in spec. Google will probably find you the best place price wise for shims You cant tell what clearances you have on a loose head, those readings will change one the head is fitted and torqued down. Don't know about the super 111 valve clearances but as far as I'm aware all of the T300's use the same clearances COLD inlet 0.10 - 0.15mm exhaust 0.15 - 0.20mm Good luck
i know there are valve shims from hondas that fit, cant recall which bike fitment tho. try your local honda dealer or do a search on triumphrat.net.......forums........sport and touring......T3, sure i have seen it in there somewhere
I would avoid using the super 3 head. they have a bigger combustion chamber so will loose you power. the clearances are the same anyway. bigger because they ran short stroke pistons. Triumph were worried the comp would be too high so made the combustion chamber bigger to bring the compression ratio down, but in actual fact they run fine with std head and give more power. My trident 900 gives 108bhp at the tyre with short stroke pistons. Shims are std 25mm as used by Yamaha and Honda and are available from places like wemoto or Wurth
Ive gone too far to turn back now...i got some new high comp pistons too which ive already fitted...i give it a go ive still got another running sprint motor motor that is in bike now so if it fails i go back to it. Youve got me thinking maybe i should keep all my parts instead of selling them like i have...Cat amungst the pidgeons an all ha ha.
You were lucky. I understand they are all gone now. Dave Lilley purchased the last 5. Has boosted the market for 2nd hand 750s just for the pistons. rather than super 3 cams I would go t595, super 3 are just too radical.
Was told there are no more new pistons left when i brought them but did think it was a sales pitch.Like you said just lucky i guess. Thanks for tip on cams but being a silly bugger by nature i will continue to oblivion.Might be fun for a short while..
