Hi ... I have a new 2013 Triumph America but now its run in I can't accelerate to any more than 95 top speed. Is there a alternative way of getting round the ECU speed restriction, as the dealer or Triumph itself are adamant that its done for a reason.... I am not happy that I can't gun it.

Well, personally i have had over an indicated 100mph out of my America without a problem. Ive had sportsbikes & have done the 130+mph everywhere thing, but now i am happy to just ride about at legal-ish speeds on my cruiser.
Doing top speed on the America/Speedmaster isnt the most comfortable of achievements. The wind blast is pretty heavy at illegal speeds without a windshield. The America/Speedmaster werent really designed for speed, its a mid range cruiser. Where as the Thunderbord/Storm or Rocket would of possible suited you better if you require the best of both worlds.

As your Triumph America is an EFI model then i think you can use the tune ecu software which is free online or visit the Triumph Twin Power website. You will need a laptop & suitable comms cable. They may well have a map that makes the necessary changes to the software in the ecu to enable your bike to go faster.

    Tune ECU - http://www.tuneecu.com/

    Triumph Twin Power - http://www.triumphtwinpower.com/triumph-twin-power-efi-tunes.php

Having said that i do remember reading somewhere that the later EFI modeled America/Speedmaster has a rev limit of 8k in 1st-4th gear but 5.5k in 5th, the only reason i can think of for this would be the stricter emission laws? Apparently there is a speed restriction in the EFI map.
The earlier carb modeled America/Speedmaster rev to 8k in all gears i believe.

Alternatively, you could change the gearing. Going down a tooth at the front would increase acceleration but drop top speed, where as going up a tooth or two at the front would increase top speed at the cost of acceleration.

Hope this helps but please get back to me should you require more information.

I have to agree with Pig, these bikes were not designed with speed in mind, they are more of a cruiser. Most folks buying this sort of bike are not interested in hitting the ton, but I am sure there is someone out there who can modify or replace the ECU. Just beware that if you do have it modified you may have issues with the Triumph warranty .
Did the dealer explain about the top speed when you bought the bike?
Perhaps you would be happier with a Speed Triple???

Thank you for that.... Also I bought this because its lighter than the Thunderbird or Rocket. I was told it was good for 120 by the sales guy. I just want to use all the throttle if needed and especially if I go to Germany again.... Anyway Thanks for the info.

Have you got open pipes? Try those with a more sporty air filter and the ecu map that Pig mentioned above. Did you have a test ride on their demo?

I'm sure you'll love it even if the top end isn't what you expected :)

With the speed restriction/5th gear rev limiter lifted you will hit 115-120mph, especially if you get TORS open exhausts & a K&N air filter. I would advise you get yourself a gym membership too to tone up your neck muscles..... You are going to need them!

If you go on the RAT forum, http://www.triumphrat.net/forum.php they are mainly people from America & are pretty helpful. The speed restricted later modeled EFI Americas/Speedmasters has been discussed no end, do a search, grab a beer or cup of tea, sit back & feed your mind with knowledge.
The answers are there & you can release more power from your bike with a few simple modifications & re-mapping.

I will one day have a go at cracking that ton and report back.

Thank you, P19DJG or is that Pig, not sure if its right of me to be familiar. Any way, I have followed up on the suggestions you have sent me and Tuneecu.com was the best. Now have the relative downloads and instructions. Also I looked at the TTP site and Triumph Torque site.
However my partner done some looking into the tuning programme and techniques. He came up with this good bit of advice for the Tuneecu programme from someone who has done it. This was useful and I have the link here. EFI Bonneville successful re-map with TuneECU... - EFI & Tunes/Mappings - Tech Forums - Messageboard - Triumph Torque
It was some real sound advice on the matter. That was on the Triumph Torque web site.
I have a screen so although at 95 it buffets I would not do over a ton without it. I don't want to do the top end of the acceleration even if this tweak works. If I want that speed I know its there to use and especially in Germany on the Autobahn
    Thanks again

    Hi
I have finally done the ECU tuneup, this was good experience. I had put it off for ages and then got round to finding the lead to interface with the ECU, after downloading the program, I studied it and looked in the site to see what others had done. Found a HEX file that suited my needs, so put that one into the bike. After saving the original program that the bike came with, I then put the new one in. Read what others had come across and the ups or downs of doing the mod. Then after the download, I put the ignition on and crossed my fingers and toes. Wow..... it went ok.... sigh of relief. Today toook it down the A30 to Exeter, blatting it when the traffic was clear enough... yessss, even with a screen, it got to the Ton... Brilliant. Now I will look at the top end of revs to increase over the ton. Watch this space.
