Hi All, New to the forum and hoping someone can shed some light on my issue. I have a daytona 600 as a first bike, it has served me well for the last few months. When I bought this I was told the reg/rec, stator and battery had been replaced recently. A few weeks ago my display began tripping out for a couple of seconds randomly, gradually this has gotten worse and worse. Voltage test on the battery seemed ok so I thought it must be a loose connection. Now around 1 weeks ago when the clocks tripped off the speedo also stopped working until the ignition was turned off and on again, would then work fine (until the next time the display cut out), this always seemed worse in the morning and the bike is stored under a cover outside so I presume moisture was getting in somewhere. Now, out riding today and the display has been staying off for longer and longer and tripping out more often. 2 minutes away from home and the bike cut out, wouldn't start again and the EML light came on. Display was dead and starter motor wouldn't even attempt to engage. Walked the bike home, read the codes which were P0560 - System Voltage, P1115 - Seems to be coolant temp?, P1500 - Speed output circuit malfunction. The ECU refused to connect after I cleared the fault codes (EML light stayed on). Now the thing I am unsure of, the voltage when I turned ignition on dropped from just over 11V to around 10V. The longer I kept the ignition on the lower the voltage was dropping on the bike, from under the fuel tank came a noise similar to an old printer warming up crossed with the old internet dial tones. Once the battery reached 5V this noise turned into a clicking sound. If I turn the ignition off the voltage on the battery begins to rise again back to around 11V, that's the bit I don't really understand. Can anyone please point me in the right direction, as mentioned the battery is new, old stator was shown to me when I purchased the bike and told this was replaced with the reg/rec. This sounds similar to a problem discussed elsewhere on the forum, hopefully they will come and help out.
The battery should read above 12.7v before trying to start (roughly) So ecu wont even allow the bike to try below that. Battery may be new only it sounds like it aint getting a charge. The noise is normal and is the ecu prossessing. if they just replaced it with the standard part it WILL fail again. It is best replaced with a MOSFET item. I doubt very much it has been. Easy way to tell is if the wires come directly out of the reg/rec then its standard. If it has a sub loom(called a link lead)and has 2 plugs going into the reg/rec then its MOSFET. There can be some that look like standard but not many. Usually from Electrex.
Sounds like broken frayed wires somewhere that are shorting out drawing away the voltage hence the flashing display etc

All, Very sorry, I didn't get the email alerts to say there had been a response. The bike was bought privately so nothing to go on there I'm afraid. Looking at other threads I am most suspicious of the r/r unit. I am going to test this and the stator again but I will try to find a battery charger and test this too. Unsure if it will be related but I had a small oil leak on the rubber bung from the stator wires. I was unable to remove the stator cover completely because of the coolant hose to the left of it. I did manage to stop the leak by putting some instant gasket around the rubber. Should this cover come off without touching the coolant hose? I did try a fair bit but forcing it was damaging the hose and I didn't fancy draining that whole system too
Also, No alarm is fitted, I am going to have to take a look at all the wiring and see if I can see any damage to them. Thank you for the help so far
Quick update. Not having much luck with this bike, battery is now on charge. Tried to remove the tank to get a look at r/r, red fuel connector started weeping so think I've managed to damage that connector. Anyone have advice for draining a full tank to remove? R/R looks like the original style rather that MOSFET, need to get tank off properly to test this but lost daylight by the time I got round to it
I've noticed the o ring on the male connector has a nick in it. I have ordered some of these. I did disconnect the red connector and fuel continued to pour out so if it is meant to be self sealing then it isn't anymore :/ I will try and get a picture of the coolant hose I refered to if I need to take that fairing off again
All, I have refit the battery (and a fuse, doh!) Bike starts nicely and all codes are clear. I have recorded the voltage readings along with the revs dipping and rising. In the video I don't touch the throttle, bike continues to do this on it's own. Voltage is higher the lower the revs get. I recorded over 16.2v just before the video starts. I'm thinking stator and battery are ok and the r/r unit causes this? Can someone please confirm. Fuel lines seem dry today but ordered some O-Rings anyway just to be sure
I'd blame the R/R if voltage is much above 13.8V. Its job is to regulate the voltage. And be careful running the bike much more with excessive voltage. My mate's KTM had all the electronics plus the battery fried in such a situation due to a blown R/R. Very, very expensive to fix. Can't be sure whether the rev dipping issue is due to the excessive voltage until that one is fixed. Seems a bit unlikely - maybe two separate issues going on.
R/R replaced yesterday along with new o-rings on fuel connectors. Voltage looks to be nice and steady now and the revs at idle are spot on. Looks like the r/r was causing this issue
Keep your eye on the stator -worth checking/inspecting it. Had replaced my rr - voltage wasn't too strong and soon after stator went too.
