Am I OK to disconnect the battery on my water cooled T100 to fit Optimate leads or by doing so am I going to mess things up. Thanks...
Disconnected the battery on 2017 Thruxton 'R' to fit Sat Nav. Etc every thing was ok, only thing I had to do is reset clock. Phone dealer prior to said task, workshops said all would be fine. So I reckon you will be ok
Bloke at Newcastle Triumph says if you disconnect the battery the service due light comes on and £39 to have it taken off. Spanners put back in drawer.
When is the next service due? Are you going to take it to dealer? If so, they will reset service indicator anyway at that service, so doesn't really matter. The symbol is a very small spanner. Just sayin

If you put jump leads from another battery (starter pack) the bike won't know then fit your optimate leads, refit battery terminals, remove jump leads and hey presto no annoying spanner symbol at all
Or make up a couple of fly leads with small crocodile clips at each end. Same principle with slightly less risk of shorting when using larger clamps. Another pair of hands is always useful to ensure power & earth continuity
Absolutely not. I have disconnected battery several times with no issues other than resetting the clock. Service wrench did not come on. Sooo much misinformation out there.
I'm glad someone else is willing to stick neck out. Refer to my original message. Are dealers after extra money I wonder?!? Go for it
What he didn't tell you is that 3 starts stops will also reset it. Or you can use tunecu or dealer tool to reset it as well. It will do no harm to disconnect it. It's just like changing a battery after all. As others have said connect a fly lead or optimiser/charger if really worried about it.
Agree with Retired Phil on this one. Done this loads of times on loads of bikes, with old style wiring systems, ride by wire and even on BMW Canbus systems (argh), no hint of a problem anywhere. No service indicator warning light coming on, the only reset needed is of the time clock. Careful what you read on the internet, some people will tell you black is white!! And of course, that white is black too!!
I have put optimate leads on my gs with 3sets of leads, only clock to set. Do it, it won’t break the bike and there are some scaremonger garages trying to make a sly buck !
