Hi everyone, apologies for gatecrashing your forum but I'm after a bit of help. I'm putting together a feature on the Speed Triple T509 and Daytona T595 for a forthcoming issue of Practical Sportsbikes magazine. I could do with having a chat with a couple of owners of each of the models and finding out what they're like to live with. In particular, it would be great to hear from anyone who has experience of restoring a previously unloved example. Thanks very much for any help you can give. Tim
Talk to Clive Wood. We used to race these for Jack Lilley team in all sorts of series inc TT, Brit production, UK Powerbike, BEARS series plus countless club series. now Golden era Superbike and Thunderbike extreme. Now he services them as a Independent Triumph specialist. Probably knows more about these bikes than anyone in the country 07752477738 I personally have an ex race tuned t595 into a speed triple (was the powerbike).
Thanks very much, I'll give Clive a call. That Speed Triple looks spectacular. Did you do much/all of that yourself?
Mainly we done it as a team for promotional work, I did some engineering on it. Then when we got TT600's for supersport I bought it off the team to make room. I made all the stuff like titanium engine bolts Spacers brackets etc. Clive tuned the motor. I've had it for over 16 years now.
Where you based Tim, Peterborough? Clive is in Swineshead, Lincolnshire. May be worth a visit. He has jigs with the swing arm showing people how to strip them, and the linkages
Inconveniently, I'm down south, in High Wycombe. I'm working for Practical Sportsbikes on a freelance basis. I've tried calling Clive but he's been engaged each time. Must be a popular guy... Specifically for this feature, PS mag has asked me to get first-hand accounts from owners of the T509 and T595 in order to get their take on the bikes, particularly any mechanical issues that develop over time and any tips on restoring tired examples. I'm hoping Clive might at least know a friendly customer or two with either of the bikes.
