My parents love their bus passes, but then they are ever so slightly tight with money. Sorry, careful with money.

I am sure you are right but first you must have a bus to catch! Planning to downsize in a couple of years and move closer to the smoke (Auld Reekie - Mr O & others please translate) when buses will rock up. Meanwhile I live beside one of the best biking roads in the Borders......

Not only do I have a bus pass, I also am the proud owner of a Senior Railcard. Sadly, whilst the bus pass and bus travel are both free, the railcard costs around £30 (some local authorities will subsidise this payment or buying online can give a 10% discount, last time I looked) but does get you a 30% discount on rail travel which can work out cheaper than using the car and paying to park the bloody thing. SWMBO is going to Gloucester sometime soon and will save £30 or so by using her card.
    They work for me!:grinning:

I like my bus pass. It gets me reduced entry costs to all sorts of stuff - NEC bike show included. Never take the bus mind....

I have had mine since I was 60 (69) this year, use it all the time to go to town, airport and Donington Race track as we only live 4 miles away.

Likewise. I've only used mine twice in 13 years for bus/train but frequently for old farts cinema tickets and the like.

Been to Belfast today, day trip on the ferry. As part of the deal, you get a free day's travel on the buses around NI.

What a feckin pain in the arse they are! Waiting around all the time, baking in the heat cos the windows are tiny, squashed up against other people. Never go exactly where you want to go, gotta just get near and then hike.

Round here, bus service is so limited, can't even get me home after last orders, waste of time.

When the time comes, I'll get one for the cinema ticket discount, etc, but not actually using the bus.

Got mine 10 years or so ago when I lived in Shetland and 'they' decided I was disabled, it is 60 at present in Scotland though but they ate considering raising the age, probably to 80 or so and have to get your parents to sign it!
It called a Saltirecard now and cover lots more, not just bus's.

Got mine aged 60. Use if going where no parking or if need to carry stuff too much for the bikes, and if it's really bucketing down and the journey is urgent.

Got mine this year, I'm 64. Could have got it last November, but only found out it was available to me when researching my wifes pension, which she does not get until the week before her 65 birthday; not bloody fair. There is a table on the goverment web site which explains when you can apply.

I only applied for mine as I'm entitled to it. I don't care if I never use it, I've paid in and therefore I've taken it out. On a similar note I got a letter from the goverment the other day for me claim my winter fuel allowance; I've applied for that and got it as well for the same reason. £200 in my pocket is better than leaving it in the goverments. A happy Wessa.

Look into 'warm front' too, if you are with the bigger 'lecky companies you could get it, another £142, APPLY NOW ASAP as it starts paying out September onwards, if you've missed this years and qualify you could be registered for next year but still need to apply.
