Evening, Thanks for the welcome. Just bought a 2015 America. Mint and only 658 miles on the clock. I have had many bikes and thought about packing up. However I decided there was still a bit of touring to do. What bike to buy. I wanted a complete change of ride. So to cut a long story short I now have a very nice America. I love it. It is certainly different from other machines I have owned. I still have a 1969 BSA Thunderbolt which I have just rebuilt. So the Mrs and I will be giving the new machine a few trips this summer with a view to the Italian Riviera, Sicily, Sardinia, and Corsica next year. 2 years ago we set off with a new Triumph Explorer and travelled the Portuguese coastline into Spain and back to the UK. The following week we set off for the TT. Then on our return we set off again for Prague, Vienna, the Swiss Alps, through France and home. We then sold it with 14000 on the clock. Good year that one. I will keep you posted of our progress on the new bike. If there is any thing I need to know about the bike please do not hesitate to give me the heads up. Regards to all, Ken. Picture of my very early days,1967 BSA Gold Flash.
Cheers MikeEng, we will certainly give it a go. I must say I got a big surprise when I rode the bike. I was originally worried that I would not like it. My back ground does not come from this type of bike. Just sold my Ducati 996 and Aprilia RSVR.. I have had the Explorer which was OK for the big trip, but in reality it was far too top heavy for me. Maureen and I did the Italian coast on a Ducati multistrada that was a half decent machine. So I was very please to find I did like the America. Ken.
Hello Ken and welcome in to the Triumph Asylum - You're a bit of a lad aren't you ? Ducati, Aprillia, Triumph etc there's a world of experience under your wheels. With your recent touring experience you'll be a real asset to this forum I've no doubt. On the subject of "heads-up", you may find you want to improve the suspension, particularly the rear suspension on your bike. Lots of blokes on here have gone for Hagons as a good value upgrade.
Maybe time just to slow it down a bit now 'Supergrandad' from your Ducattis and Aprillas. Lay back, chill out and enjoy the Italian Riviera tour Amalfi coast, Pompei, and pop across to Capri for a day if you can plan it in, stunning!
Cheers guys, great welcome. This picture is on the Island, a mate of mine was invited to test transponders before the TT. He invited me along. 2 days of great fun. This was my little 748, on the way home to the ferry a taxi u-turned on the promenade NO more Ducati. No fault accident for me and no injuries thankfully. Scary stuff. Good picture though.
Cheers guys, great welcome. Looking forward to chatting as time goes on. Ride safe all. One Life Live it.
Welcome Ken. I truly do hope you enjoy this one. I rode one briefly after we had picked one up for the dealership... wasn't "the one" for me, but came pretty dang close. Very impressing piece of machinery. To many miles on your new Triumph!
Welcome in! Oh yes, I can relate. Over the last year, or so, I also have been starting to treat myself to a more relaxed driving layout of life. Basically, I am a pretty layed back type of guy, but whenever someone puts me on a Duc or a Speedy/Streety or into a car like my Mini Cooper S, I start doing stuff, people over 50 should be old enough to know better about... Sooo tempting. Know something else? I just got myself a bike with 53 HP and on this I can rev to the limit without reaching 120 Km/H in second gear on a nice and smooth country road. I actually enjoy this very much. Back home, we say 'Weniger ist mehr' (less is more). Quite true sometimes. Cheers, Daniel
Welcome in. I came of a GSXR750 to the America. I too wanted a change and to enjoy life in the slow lane for a while, plus the missus actually agreed to go pillion on it. Went round Scotland and Ireland last year, two up, in comfort and loads of space to carry all the gear in panniers and a big roll bag on the sissy bar rack. Only advice is get a set of Triumph Off Road (TOR) pipes, let that glorious noise out. Small fly screens from Dart are also a great addition for the big miles. Great bikes, love mine, she's a keeper for a long time.
Mr Orange, thanks for your replies, I do have the TOR pipes fitted. Interested in your screen choice. I have the full standard screen currently which is very BIG. I also do not like riding viewing through the screen. I was thinking of a change does your Dart give you some wind deflection. would you recommend this for long touring trips. I do wear a full face helmet so this would be good for this type of screen. ? Ken. I do like the look of the Dart makes the bile very cool
Don't really show my bile off to many people!!!! sorry, couldn't resist. Don't like the look of the big screen either, plus looking through them, especially in the wet, is a bit crap. Dart screen takes a lot of wind blast of the chest, but do get a bit of noise as it does hit a bit higher, in the face region, but still better than full arm ripped off as the hgv goes the opposite way!!! Did 300 miles in a day recently, I think it does help a fair bit when touring. If you go for one, buy directly from Dart, service really good, and free postage, iirc.
Cheers for this, I have ordered one direct. What a really nice guy he is. So looking forward to getting out and about.
