I called DataTool last Friday after waiting 10 days for a response. I was told they are overwhelmed by the recall and will be in touch as soon as.

    Still waiting.

Update - I spoke to soon.

I received an email from DataTool today. Interestingly they did not offer me the option to switch to their Tracking product. However, when I queried this the said I could change if I wanted to. Which I do.

Hopefully I will have an installation soon.

Had my Alarm replaced with a TrakKing yesterday. The fitter came to my house and installed it in about an hour.

It seems like a good piece of kit. If the bike moves without the ignition on it sends a text to the monitoring centre and me. Once I confirm it's been stolen they liaise with the police to recover the vehicle.

I need to remember to switch of the text alerts it it's getting serviced, on a recovery vehicle, ferry etc. Basically anywhere it might be moved without the ignition on. It's easy to switch the alerts on and off on the website link they give you. I can also see the location myself on a map.

Apparently they have a recovery rate of over 80%. Let's hope I never find out.

Had my alarm changed Thursday, so easy a child could do it. The guy who came Pete the alarm man said it was a total over reaction on the part of datatool many other makes of alarms with much more regular/common problems never get recalled and people still buy and fit them. Still it's done now so looking to get out next sunny dry day.

Bike picked up by local Triumph dealer on Wednesday to have the Datatool Alarm replaced. Waited two hours but was told the battery was too discharged to start the bike so had to leave it overnight. Returned the following day to be told its all done & handed new registration papers. Got geared-up and fired up the bike only to find the rev counter was not working..! Bike went back into the workshop for half an hour to fix the problem.. Bit disconcerted to be told their engineer had signed off the electrical work even though he knew the rev counter was not working. He seemed to think it wasn't working when the bike was delivered the previous day even though, at that time, the battery was so flat the engine couldn't be started.. Anyhow, a nice 40 mile ride around the wilds of Essex soon put a smile back on my face.. Bring on the sunshine..

Mmmmm. My original Datatool (fitted in April 2016) displayed all the signs - wouldn't switch on, wouldn't switch off, switched itself off overnight and was generally useless.

It was replaced last summer, before all of this surfaced and having just checked, it's now a 2016 week 12 (so safe by four weeks). Phew.

Like many others, I knew nothing of this until reading it today on this forum. I'm booked into Jack Lilley (who haven't mentioned known issues) at the end of the month for a service - and for them to investigate the warn-away beeps that don't beep when the bike is nudged. Hopefully that's just a setting that hasn't been activated.

Do you fully arm it Mr T ?
I must admit I only ever let it set itself which does not arm the bike movement mode.
Without wanting to tempt fate, I have not had any problems with my 2012 dealer fitted Datatool
I have read that electrical masts etc. can trouble them.

Yes, I always arm it with the fob - or if it arms itself, then I disarm and re-arm to set the movement detector.

My son has a 2015 Datatool on his Daytona (not checked the serial number yet) and the warn-away on his, is completely the opposite - it's so sensitive you only have to tap it and it sounds.

These alarms aren't exactly new technology - it's surprising how flakey they are. On the plus side, it wasn't applied to my insurance and working or not working, it's reduced my insurance renewal significantly.

    Hi guys,
I'm just about to book my daytona in for it's alarm to be changed and I am still undecided whether to go for a straight swap or go for the tracker, any thoughts?

    Hi Steve

I switched my Alarm for the Tracker a few months ago. It all works fine. You just need to remember to switch the alerts function off and back on before and after any event where it could be moved with the ignition off. Like when being serviced or on a ferry. Its easy to do this on your mobile.

Something else to consider is that whilst you may receive an Insurance discount for having an alarm you might not with a tracker. It seems odd that this should be the case but not all Insurance companies do.

I was going to go for the Tracker as it's a good deal they offer, but I'm after one with RF/GSM/GPS.
The Datatool one is only GSM/GPS, so I just stuck with the alarm swap for now and I'll get something like one of these later.

Yes that's what I'm gonna do. Plus the insurance company wanted another £40 admin fee to alter the policy and it wouldn't get me any better discount anyway.

Touchwood, I havent had any problems with my S4 alarm fitted in 2012.
Different systems the alarm and tracker.
I personally would go for the alarm and get a cheap mobile phone/tracker as well as, for peace of mind.

Just found about about S4 recall last week by accident when bike woudnt start but after phoning RAC and dealer who fitted it. Neither mentioned safety recall. Triumph grey S4 alarm fitted June 2016. Waiting on Datatool response. I was told to email to get a quicker response!

No one seems to talk about it - reminds me of Fight Club : unamused:

I reported mine via this link: http://support.scorpionauto.com/serial-checker

It was sorted out within a couple of days - very efficiently in fact. For the record however, the replacement is currently playing up and Datatool have referred me back to Triumph

My latest problem is it sometimes arms itself with the ignition switched ON but before the engine has been started. The fuel gauge will show empty and the alarm light flashes. After cycling the fob button and ignition switch, the starter button takes maybe 5 seconds of holding it in, before it will respond and start the engine.
