Hello and welcome, sorry to hear you are having problems with the bike. Usually the cause would be that the clutch is dragging and not disengaging fully preventing the gears from shifting when stood still until the engine is switched off. Things to check would be that the cable is adjusted properly and is not getting trapped as you turn the bars from side to side. Does the clutch lever feel smooth in operation. A drop or two of light oil on the pivots of all moving parts can make a big difference. Lastly, is the oil due for changing and has the bike got the correct oil in? If all else fails, get Jody (forum member) to come and look at it,he had trouble with his clutch in a similar way and can strip and rebuild the clutch blindfold in 30 minutes flat:rolleyes:
Edit, just a thought, what's the chain tension like, is there likely to be any tight spots? As the problem is intermittent you could be coming to a halt just where the chain is at its tightest making the gears a bit harder to shift??

Hi Les and welcome to the forum.

I would suggest that before you do anything else, reduce the free-play at the handlebar end. The cables can stretch and therefore the clutch has too much free-play so it's not fully disengaging.

let me know how you get on ive got similar issues 2011 speed triple,I found if before coming to a stop give throttle a few blips as you slow down I.e 3rd,2nd,it goes into neutral much easier,I'm on hol but back tommorow and going to give chain bit more slack to see if that helps as think its too tight (20-25mm no load) much tighter than my zrx and r1 came from dealer this way,not common issue but found few posts one states removing clutch plates and overnight soaking in oil cures this (video on YouTube) another suggests filling gearbox up and tilting bike over towards clutchside overnight, drain and refill gearbox but don't know how these so called fixes came about, read other posts regarding chainslack and gear lever linkages but I would go for chain slack first and check gear lever linkages for wear/slop easier stuff first.
