Hi all, my name is Steve I am 45 and from Skipton, North Yorkshire. I am new to motorcycling as I only passed my test in October of 2016. All of my mates are car drivers so I was wondering if there are any members in my local area that I could meet up with for rides out as it can be a little boring going out on my own. My Wife does enjoy being pillion but does not like to go far so I am looking for others to ride with. As I said I am a new rider and do not want to go racing around the countryside like some kind of speedway rider with a death wish, but I am sure that I would benefit from the experience of other riders and enjoy a leisurely ride or two around the Dales. Also do you know of any motorcycle clubs near me that I may be able to get involved with.
Hi and welcome in. Happy to have you tag along on a ride, but a bit far for you! hopefully someone comes along a bit more local. Grand meet up in July is not far from you, maybe join us on the rides out.
Hi Steve. You'll find quite a few Yorkies* on the forum. I'm sure someone will hook you up. Def check out our GMU meet in July up in Keilder. Even if you can't overnight you could pop up for a ride out with those of us inmates allowed out on weekend passes. *Check out the God's Own Country/County thread. A few of your ilk popped their heads up in there.
Sure ain't, I used to ride a Suzuki TS50 and then a TS125 back in the 80's There was no CBT then just buy a bike get some insurance an MOT and ride it. lol. I did have a few near misses though "mainly due to being young and stupid" but I scared myself and voved never to ride a bike again. However my eldest Daughter came home with a new boyfriend last year and he had a 125cc Lexmoto that he let me have a go on and I thought "maybe I should get another bike" after all I am much older now and self preservation has kicked in, so I bought a new Lexmoto Michigan 125cc (£1200) on a new 65 plate "cheap as chips" and set about getting my test passed. Finally in October of 2016 I passed and bought a Suzuki SV 650 this turned out to leak oil all the time so I bought a Thiumph Sprint ST as I always wanted a Triumph and I liked the look of the Sprint, Great bike, wish I had got this in the first place but I was a little worried about getting something so big so soon after passing my test. Don't know what I was worried about though I love it and it handles better than the SV. Looking forward to some good weather this year and many days out on my new bike (once I have sorted out my starting problem, see my other post in the technical help section of the forum). Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.
Hi mate and welcome I'm in Tyne&andwear gis a shout if you want to meet up for a ride sometime Sunday is always better for me I ride a speedmaster so my stupid fast days are behind me Although I still try now and again
Welcome Steve, good luck with the ride outs. I had the 1050 ST a few years ago, great bike. If you do get down to Cheshire some time there are some great roads not far in any direction from me. Wessa
OI! You forgot the short arms and deep pockets!! Disgraceful! They are vital part of the Yorkshireman's characteristics. Oh, and hi Steve from me Steve (just over the border in The East Riding of Yorkshire). Not too far away if ever you're passing this neck of the woods.
Hi Steve, I am new to the forum too and it is a great place to be, lots of friendly and helpful advice. I am not too far from you (York), hopefully we can find time to meet up for a ride out.
