Coincidentally, I came across this today. It takes a while to get going,

No really, they don't start playing for a minute-and-a-half.

Much of early Floyd was abysmal crap. Piper At The Gates Of Dawn for one.
    But, they certainly atoned.

Before I dumped all my CDs at a charity shop I had all of Zappa's albums. I still have a few on vinyl. Some good, some less so, a few gems. I do like Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar. Joe's Garage is a stand out concept album. His other live albums Roxy & Elsewhere and Zappa In New York are well worth checking out. And also his parody of Sgt Peppers with We're Only In It For The Money.

One Saturday evening in 1968 or maybe 69 five of us sixth formers crammed in to a mate's little car and drove down to St Albans from Corby to see Chicken Shack (iirc). Anyway the gig was cancelled. So we scanned the gig guide in whichever music paper we had in the car and as Bedford was on the way home opted to go see a band called Pink Floyd. They were different.

I haven't heard Roxy & Elsewhere or Zappa In New York. The others I've got. We're Only In It For The Money was the album I was listening to along with Ship Arriving Too Late... as my entry point for Zappa.

I'm still adding to my CD collection. The only time they'll get dumped is when I'm dead and gone and my family wonder what the hell I've been listening to all these years.

I've entered the Zappa world through Steve Vai and Mike Keneally. I like the efficient bits, early Mothers of invention , less some others, but will definitely see the Zappa Documentary.
