It is the way a lot of bikes are going, not sure why? But I too am not a fan, trouble is not sure how to mod it in order for it not to look so poo?

It will have to be a side mounted plate with a integrated brake and turn lights.
I honestly don't mind the look of it tbh and I'm not just saying that cos I own one

They could always revert to having a proper rear mudguard and brackets and a huge seat you could fit an entire Vietnamese family on.

The rearmost part of the bike is not allowed to be the tyre
Don’t know why but it’s not
That’s why people use tail tidy’s

 

LA monster on the R 3 forum has sorted a rail tidy but that is with a small USA plate.
Having ridden the bike over a few bumps the UK plates unless rectangular will not last very long. There is not a lot of clearance
The sales guy at Triumph said they will be bringing out a side plate. I’m sure there will be plenty options soon.
Also the crud catcher does stop a load of crap from going up your back.
