Not 100% on this but i.m not sure how much longer i can put up with a hard-tail on my local roads, and the wife loves the bike but her back is not good, so i am considering letting it go and get something a little more modern and comfortable. I may either sell and buy a new Speed-master, or possibly swap or px for one or an earlier model, but as its a chop/bobber i am not sure just what it would fetch, i have seen plenty of older twins as customs/chops going for anything from 6 to 10K but as i haven't seen another T160 custom and they are pretty rare it seems, add the fact that its tax and MOT exempt so whats your opinion?
Try it at that amount and see what response you get, if you get loads then it’s too cheap if none then it’s too much. The problem with unique things is it comes down to individual taste and how much someone is willing to pay so it’s hard to put a fixed price to it
Thanks for the feedback guys, second question where would be the best place to advertise, not keen on going the eBay route.
You won't get what you want or what the bike is worth on ebay - too much of a general sales forum rather than specialist and everyone wants a bargain! Is there a custom bike magazine or forum you could advertise in? That way you corner the specialist market and the people you are dealing with now the value of these bikes.
If you’re fishing for a price on either of those make sure you have a high minimum. I would try a more specialised area, built magazine or 100% biker maybe.
Its a nice machine and well worth 10k even the engins fetch over five alone if you can find one. Is the frame and engine numbered as if its the origonal frame and engine modified that and the reg add value to the bike. Really is a nice machine. Or get it soft tailed. Regards Joe.
Thanks Joe, yes the frame has it original number but the engine number has been added to it at some stage, i know that the original build was done over thirty years ago, and its 43 years old which is why it qualifies for a black plate and free tax/MOT so its what you might call a real classic custom.
The trouble with specialised magazines, is the limitations of readership, purchase of magazine / number of readers / frequency of publication (could take weeks before advert is published) etc Gumtree or eBay is the way to go, everyone who is going to buy a bike has access to "tinternet"
