So I recently purchased a 2008 Speed Triple, all looks good, correct specs for the year wheels, brakes etc. Milage is as I would expect, docs and numbers in order. I just make a search on the VIN online to find out more info on the bike and the year code on the VIN is R which is coming back as 1994. So I'm a bit puzzled docs have 2008 as year manufacture with the VIN, am I missing something here? Anyone know how the date code works? TIA.
Vin number is build and frame, registered date is date registered. It may of been in storage for a while prior to registration date. Hope this helps
PM the last six digits of the VIN number and I'll check the Triumph on-line system to see what is recorded when I'm back at work next week.
Well this is interesting it came up as a 2009 on the update search on the official Triumph page, now I'm really confused. R is the 94 year code, and its clearly a 2008 spec bike.
The "R" thats coming up in your original search would have been a T300 series bike back in 94', why yours came back as such I'm not sure unless they changed some part of the vin once they hit the year 2000 which was 1 & 2001 which was 2 after the first range of letters ( 1999 was Y )
I thought that was the reason why, R is not the manufacture year as all the VIN search engines state but the year that particular model was introduced which for the triple was 94.
