Hello, I’m considering buying a Bonnie,and I would like to know when Triumph stopped making them in the uk. I understand that they can be modified to increase power,but don’t know if that would necessarily enhance the ride . I’d be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction,and I appreciate that it’s a personal opinion as far as mods are concerned. Thanks in advance. Tom.
Welcome. I infer you are talking about the ‘not so new Bonneville’ I.e. not the 60/70s original and not the current range but the 790/865cc air cooled bikes? Perhaps you could verify. 790 2001-2007 865 2005-2017 Efi from 2008. The later models were assembled In Thailand.

I doubt there is any discernible difference in quality but assembly shifted progressively from about 2006 with a mix of UK and Thai parts. My 2005 T100 is Hinckley built and ‘first of the 865s last of the carbs’. https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesoci.../bikes/where-was-your-triumph-motorcycle-made ......so you are looking at 2005/2007 but check the Triumph Twin Power specs pages as the 790 and 865 overlap in different models and the UK switched to 865 before they were available in the US which can confuse.

Tom Gillam. The street twin is also a decent bike with the mag wheels. Then there's the America and speedmaster mostly UK built the earlier ones up to about 12 year. Really they are all nice bikes. But a little less maintenance with the blacked out models. Again Carbs are easier to work on but efi just get on and ride. Like you said its what takes your fancy. Just take test rides till you find you ideal partner and you will when the machine feels right in you control. Ride Safe & Enjoy Joe.
Efi easier to work on ! No disassembly to adjust fueling ! Just need "tunnecu" or power commander 111 and spend sometime on a dyno / rolling road and get it tuned ! Any of the twins would satisfy most riders for handling.
Thanks for your replies, I’ve noticed that the efi has a petrol warning light,does anyone know what the reserve is,and also do these motors use much oil?
The reserve is between 3 and 4 litres notice lighting up. If it's been treated right , no they don't use oil , well not significantly. I have a ten year old Bonneville America , done 127,000 klms , uses maybe 200/300 ml between services. So from high mark to the low ! Is about 300/400 ml
As far as I'm aware 2014 onwards the range went to a locked ECU.....certainly true for my last America...only recently that TTP figured out how to unlock the ECU on these models. What it meant for me was that at 97mph the ECU shut down on one cylinder as a speed limiter. Very very irritating and why I sold the bike in the end.
Out of an act of spontaneity,I bought an 07 Bonnie yesterday. It’s the carb model with under 7.5k ,new mot and battery and in excellent condition,apart from the casings where the lacquer has gone and need whipping off and coating in satin black.
Might I ask how inexpensive your impulse was? I am kind of curious because it has the twin clock mod but the engine casings have not held up anything like my T100 chrome and with rather fewer miles on it.
Yes ,the price did have an effect,just under £3k. I thought it best to powder coat thecasings in black,as the engine is black,rather than alloy.
