Most who buy the retro vintage styled Bike's only use them for a few years and then sell them on with maybe 2 or 3 thousand miles done. My America has 121,000 klms now and there are plenty of "cheap & nasty" bolts that are doing just fine ! No wear visible, and I do most of my own maintenance and repairs. Cheers capt
It all goes to 5hit! .... but then this has happened across many industries. The real problem is people, nearly all of us, want better things and cheaper year after year. The shareholders expect a dividend year after year; who funds all of this ultimately? The purchaser.
hi interested in these shocks looked on the firefox website couldn't see any thing specifically for the speed twin are you having them made to order .
We are going for the RZ362 non piggyback, the main reason for the change is Su is under 60kg so have gone for the next size softer spring so i can set the sag up better on her bike.
It all down to cost cutting these days. Back in the 80s no one could come near the quality of Honda's. Nowadays their quality is nothing to write home about. All manufacturers are using cheaper parts, even a penny saving on one bolt saves them millions. If you want high quality these days you have to pay for it and buy the parts yourself.
As some of you may know, I've been looking at the new Royal Enfield Interceptor. With one eye on the Triumph T100 I took an hour to look around the RE in the local RE concessionaire. The welding on the frame was faultless, the brake hoses are all braided, engine cases are brushed but not laquered (easier to maintain). Honestly all is good. And to put the tin lid on it, Triumph T100 starts at £9000, whereas the RE Interceptor 650 costs start at £5300 - that's about £3700 cheaper !!!! Yes, the T100 is a bit more powerful on paper, but honestly the RE is more than powerful enough, much more comfortable, and has a surprising amount of character. It feels like a great modern classic.
I do read about more complaints with the newer Triumphs. That is sad. The earliest Hinckley's seem to be solid. I have three, all built in the old factory before.the fire and they have held up well. I think they will be passed on with my estate when I'm gone. I surely have no intent to sell them. ...J.D.
It’s not heavy at all, the weight is low down, so it feels stable but not cumbersome. Bargain bike of the year
Ray, you look like a happy bunny !!!! When I went to the RE dealer a few days ago, not only did they have an orange demonstrator, but also an Interceptor with a chrome tank - sold - (drool, drool.) but also a GT with a chrome tank - also sold !!! The chrome tanks certainly give the bike an even greater classic look imo. Decisions decisions .
About 40 years ago, I was on a training course with a guy from our factory (I was a maintenance engineer, fixing the stuff the factory produced). We were complaining to him about the recent use of cheap parts that didn't last as well as they used to. He explained it was all about cost reduction on the production lines. I thought his cynical reply was classic "we design a new product and it goes through testing. If it works, production then cost-reduce it, and if it doesn't work it is cost-reduced."
