Great collection of motorcycles that are sadly collecting dust in our storage unit. Originally bought as an investment and to feed our love of old motorcycles has somehow turned into annoying monthly storage fees on our credit card that seem to have no end. Who knew storage prices would increase astronomically over the past five years to what they currently are? Perhaps, joining this forum and interacting with current members will ignite the motivation we need to get them back on the road and seen by others who appreciate them. 1961 Tiger T110 1959 T5 Twin Speed 1958 T110] 1969 T150
@Chris and Shanes Welcome to the family. What a nice collection. Yes get them out there on the road again. Do let us all know what you do. Just think of the smiles you will get. Think i would opt for the tiger 110.
You need to check the engine/frame numbers on your 61 ton ten as it should have a bathtub rather than just a rear mudguard. The engine is certainly one of the late pre-unit lumps as it has an ally head from what I can see together with the duplex frame which was produced from late 1959 to 1962 covering 3 production years. The 1960 model year started on 3rd September 1959 with engine No. TR6 029364. This numbering continued from the previous year until it was decided to change the numbering system to a ‘D’ prefix and start at 6T D101 on 17th September 1959 and continue with the ‘D’ prefix until production stopped at TR6 D20308 on 30th July 1962. The T110 model ceased production on 6th July 1961 at Engine No. T110 D14947. Can you please tell us what the engine/frame number is of your 61 ton ten?
Interesting. My own Tbird is engine/frame number D9435 and I know that the engine build and the frame build are both recorded in the factory records as happening on the 10th of October 1960 making it a 1961 model. Furthermore, it left the factory on the 18th of October 1960. As our two machine’s engine numbers and I presume frame numbers are so close it’s reasonable to assume that your machine was also built and despatched in late 1960 but is a 61 model. I will make further enquiries and may come back with further details.
is it possible for you to post decent photos of the engine number and the frame number which you will find on the left hand side of the headstock without the T110 prefix.
@Chris and Shanes guys I have some further information for you but before I post it I really need to see the engine and frame numbers in order that I post the correct information. If you’re not keen on posting it on the forum, which I fully understand, you can always PM them to me.
Hi Baza sorry for the delayed response, the bike is actually not near me and all I have is the pics, I will be going to see them soon and will get better pics then. That is cool that they were made so close to each other.
OK, I will await your better images, especially of the engine number. Any idea as to when that is likely to be?
As soon as I can see a photo of the engine number, and hopefully the frame number I may have some interesting news for you. My current information would tend to indicate that the engine didn't leave the Meriden factory in a T110! But in order that I don't mislead you I really need to see the engine number.
