Was reading another forum and saw another Triumph America owner had just updated his bike to a K&N filter, he posted a few pics and I noticed he was still running the stock snorkel. I mentioned that the removal of the snorkel aids in air flow to the intake and showed him a picture of the Polaris bellmouth that I run on mine. Someone else added to the conversation and showed the ad for the Norman Hyde aluminium bellmouth which is a really nice looking bellmouth. When I was looking at removing my airbox completely I was tipped off to the Polaris conversion might be a better alternative and the more I read made up my mind. Just thought I'd mention it for any new America / Speedie owners who have just gotten into Triumphs, The Polaris part is about $20 and when you buy it you split it in half and get two from the one part, the Norman Hyde one is in the smaller pic and is around $130.
Triumph Twin Power (TTP) do the best flowing bellmouth. They call it 'breath' and it has been benchflow-tested. Also bare in mind that the airbox has a baffle/restrictor plate in it from the factory - so if you want max airflow, this needs removing as well as the snorkle.
Very true - in fact, if you don't remove the airbox baffle you will find that the bellmouth - K&N filter combination will make little difference.
You split it right in the middle, so the small inner lip sits below the top plate and as the top tapers outwards it holds it in nice and stable.
