Hmm. It seems either spelling is correct but in the UK we tend to opt for Matt, whereas in the US it's more likely to be Matte. Don't know why. It's surprising because you chaps over there generally prefer to miss out letters from words rather than add them, hence color, humor, traveler, pediatric etc. As we've been good enough to lend you our language, the least you could do is spell it correctly
ahhh you forgot harbor, which of course the only time we seem to use harbour is when they/those who use it want to imply an "upscale" connotation
