Hi everyone As you all know I have just few days ago bought a 2011 Speed Triple. I have pair of new Metzlers M7RRs (120/70 Front & 190/50 Rear). The Triumph recommends the rear to be 190/55. Would it be ok to use the 190/50 instead of the 55 profile without affecting the handling? Otherwise I will need to go through the hassle of selling them on and buy new ones. The reason I ask is on my previous bike GSXR, the recommended rear is 190/50 and the 55 profile messes up the handling!!! This was experienced by lot of GSXR forum members!!! Many thanks
Got the M7RR's on my Speedy now and rate them 110%, but they are the recommended sizes. You're going in the opposite direction to your comments ref the GSXR so handling wise I wouldn't expect it to be a problem (hopefully somebody on the forum has actually tried this and can comment), going non-standard on width would have a much more noticeable effect. Depends if the reduced height is in the tread area or sidewall, if sidewall I would expect the ride to be a little more harsh, if tread it'll be a bit slower steering. You'll also be reducing the rolling radius so a slight improvement in acceleration I guess. There will also be some speedo error but you could correct that by one of the features in TuneECU if needed.
In desperation you could use them but would have to lower the front or lift the rear as the 50 is a lot lower than the 55, the 55 is a faster turning tyre and has a larger contact patch on its side so if you value the handling i would fit Pirelli supercorsa

Ridden both Supercorsa and Metzler M7RR's, personally I prefer the feel of the M7RR's and they're also fine in the wet if you get caught out. I never rode the sc's in the wet so can't comment but search the forum and you'll find plenty of others that weren't happy with them in the wet. I managed 3k miles out of the Supercorsa's, only done 1.5k on the M7's with hardly noticeable wear so far.
2ct's are a good allround tyre, but there are better. depends on your riding style and what weather you mostly ride in. Most of my riding is on dry days so i find the Pirelli supercorsa sp's the best for me as they suit my style and they are not that bad if you get caught out in the rain. I am sure when you are looking for some plenty members will give you an insite into what's best for you In the meantime enjoy.
The other thing I'd be concerned about with a 50 series instead of 55 is how it affects the ABS and (less so) the speedometer reading, since overall the tire will be shorter and smaller in circumference. Realize you've already chosen to put a /55 on, R_1000. Just adding this comment for posterity should anyone search the forum for an answer to a similar question in the future.
Thank you Muzhik. Yep, I have decided to go ahead a 190/55 M7RRs or PR4s. I have used the PR4s on a 6,000 mile Europe trip and they are damn good. Rode through some harsh conditions and they held well.
I just checked my rear tire and it's more than 5 years old( DOT 2411 ). Even though it's got plenty of thread, I think it will be better to get it changed. This bike is a weekend blast hence she will see some speed n corners. What are your thoughts people? Am I being over cautious? Cheers
Your tyres are fine, just looked at pix of them. They are great tyres so just go out n fry them Nothing wrong with cautious lol.
