Hi to all, First post on the forum and a general question particularly the Thruxton owners on here. My bike is due for upgrade as its PCP is due to expire soon and am looking to change away from the Bobber Black which I currently have as I have had both the single disk and twin disk models. I am looking at a Thruxton RS 1200 with the kit including the small fairing etc and, having been offered a good deal am tempted to make the change. Only issue is, I can't even swing a leg over one of the bikes due to lockdown! Question is, what is the general feeling among the owners about the bike? I have read the reviews and all seems positive but interested to hear from owners who have covered a few miles rather than the magazine reviews. I realise the riding position will be significantly different from the Bobber, but this is not an issue for me as I have previously had a Sprint RS, Street Triple and a Speed Triple. I would go back to the Speed in an instant as I loved the bike but, am probably too old to go back to a full sports bike. I also found it a tad difficult due to the ride height as I am just a little short on leg to get sufficient feet on floor for my liking. Your comments will be welcome. Cheers G
Its a great bike! With the fairing on it will have a lower set of handlebar risers fitted. Try to get the higher ones and it will be all day comfy. Dealers might tell you that the higher risers won't work with the fairing but they do, plenty of people including myself used the higher risers with the fairing. Its a stunning bike and a brilliant engine! Welcome to the forum
Hi and welcome. I have nothing to add from proper experience, but I would be very careful thinking the Thruxton will be ergonomically like the Triples. Real shame you cannot get a test. I have read posts in more than one place about people struggling with wrist comfort on the low bars as andyc1 says.
Do you like the bike you have now? Why not buy that? I assume you have that option rather than entering into another PCP agreement? I know many people like having a new bike, so perhaps that idea doesn't work for you, but just a thought as it were.
I keep looking at the bobber black and then I shudder at the amount of explaining i'd have to do (to the missus) to explain yet another change of colour of all my biking gear.... First world problems!? However, go balls out and get the thruxton tfc (?) model. There ya go, decided for you!
Hi Graeme, I changed from a scrambler to a Thruxton a couple of years ago and love it! I was worried about the riding position as I suffer from back trouble but I find it really comfortable. I’ve done tours on it with long days (6+ hours) and had no issue. You can open her up and have a real giggle or else ride sensibly and get 180 miles to a tank! I don’t think you’d be disappointed!!! In my humble opinion the Thruxton R is the best bike I have ever had. I currently have a T140 , Thruxton R and a Speed Triple RS. Previous bikes include R9T, Tiger 1050, 1200, CBR 600, X11, 400/4, Sprint ST, FZR 1000 ExUp. DT100, RD250, NTV 600. The Thruxton has never failed to put a smile on my face either riding it or just looking at it. There is nothing I dont like about it, oh except the alarm but I have a bypass plug for that. I dont have the fairing so cannot really comment on the one you are looking at. However when I had the R9T and the Thruxton I found it almost a challenge to have both because of their similarities. The R9T was brand new and the Thruxton 3 years old so logic would dictate the Thruxton was het for going, I just couldn't part with it In short go for it you will not regret it. The only regret you may have is not getting one last year. If Carlsberg made bikes .....
I had the thruxton R and its one of those bikes I should have kept. Triumphs best classic style bike in my opinion. Oh and you will have to get used to people coming up to it for a look and even a photo! Had that happen quite a few times
Thought about that but, in all honesty, I have had 2 Bobbers and just time for a change. I only took up Bikes at my 50th and making up for lost time owning and riding as many different models as possible.
Yes, that is something I am wary of. However, the bars on my Sprint RS were lowered and I found it to be the most comfortable bike I've had to date. It is something I have to watch due to an old wrist injury.
Loved it every bit as much as the Thruxton R. Only got rid of it because at 4k rpm which equated to 70mph I felt vibrations through the handlebars which were so bad it caused pins and needles in my fingers. I tried various things to reduce the vibes but nothing worked.
I’ve got 6 bikes at mo, I’ve lost count of how many I’ve had over the years, I can say hand on heart that my TT1200 is my favourite bike of them all, some of the others did some things better, ie my Ducati M1200 was faster, but it’s a bike that does everything very well and IMO looks stunning, I’d say go ahead and buy it.
