As I have had time for some much longer bike rides recently I have started to notice the gearing is a bit short in standard form. Does anyone else feel the same? Stunning overtakes obviously with instant pick up but would it benefit from a sprocket change? Maybe Just a tad longer legs?
Seen elsewhere: The easy mod seems to be a switch to the T120 gearbox sprocket which adds 1 tooth and loses about 250 rpm at 75mph.
Mine is starting to loosen up and feel better also as the miles go up, it's still very low as I didn't get much time on it yet. (1200m)
2 teeth larger on the front would be ideal, one isn't enough (17t) to notice much of a difference, but I couldn't find an 18 tooth sprocket. I ended up using a 37 tooth T120 rear sprocket and removing two links from the chain...Perfect. Use the calculator in the post abouve and you will find the gearing for both the Thruxton and the T120 in the data-base, do the comparison and you will see the difference.
Just to illustrate the effect, I changed the front sprocket from 18 to 19 teeth (on my 955i Tiger) and the difference at 60mph was a reduction in revs of approx 350 rpm and the difference is bigger the faster you go.
Am I reading right ? I find it one of the highest geared bikes ive ever had- 20ish.Especially compared with some placcy bikes. unless the twin bangs aspect is tricking me, i'm not a red-liner by the way.
