Took the Trident on the DGR on Sunday and it behaved very well. However, on the way back the bike started revving up to 2500rpm when stopping at junctions or when left in neutral. I jiggled the throttle cable thinking that was caught and after a while it seemed to settle down but it wasn't quite right. Came to start it today and the choke lever would not budge. Turns out the bottom section of the choke cable had been pulled out of line from where it sits in the adjuster and caught itself on the edge of it, possibly because the cable had moved slightly out of position. I moved it all back to where it wasn't caught so that the choke operated on and off properly and it seems OK but will keep an eye on it. Pics explain it better - bottom one shows how it was and top how it should be. (overspray is WD40).
As it is popping out of the adjuster, the most probable solution would be to extend/tighten the adjuster so there is not enough slack for it to pop out.
Cheers mate, yes I did adjust it to take up the little bit of slack but the whole cable had moved over and off the top of the cylinder head so more slack had been created. Back in the correct position now over the top of the head.
Turns out that the cable had broken anyway - it's meant to be fixed at this point so it wasn't a matter of poor adjustment. Had to buy a new one in the end - choke operation much smoother and idle more consistent so worth the pain of getting the tank off!
Worth taking note of these small issue's that can be a pain when you are out and about. I remember I had a intermitant fault when starting my Sprint 900 turned out to be the Starter Switch, a small metal piece was found floating about inside took me two hours to figure out where it came from.Sits on the end of the spring under the button you push. My Trident also had starting problems and read somewhere it was a dirty commutater, removed and dismantled starter cleaned it lightly with sandpaper (dirty on one area so no contact with the brushes) wash off with methylated spirit no more problems.
That's good to know - my mate has the same problem with his Sprint 900 - I'll get him to take a look.
Yea what happens is the spring becomes compressed over time and out pops the metal disc. Remember to streach out the spring again. Mick
