Hi from Canada. I take delivery of a new 2019 Street Twin later this year when the snow has gone.The warranty is already ticking from October when I bought it.I would like to do some mods before a long ride accross Canada,de cat,slip ons.This would void the warranty I imagine,is it worth taking the chance?Any one had serious problems in the warranty period(or after).Any thoughts.
Hi Grippy, I've only ever owned second hand bikes, so know nothing about warranty, but there are loads of clever boffins in the asylum, who I'm sure will give you good advice. Have fun crossing Canada.
Our dealer here winks at the mods on some of the new bikes he services. Actually a pretty cool bunch over there. One of my riding buddies has a T-120 that has been de-catted, remapped and a few other tweets. They haven't bothered him about warranty. They also work on my "old and odd" Triumph pieces. Only trouble I have had is them finding a few of the parts needed. ...J.D.
Grippy. Welcome to the family. Warranty over here in blighty are good aswel. My bike the t120 I had the same. Checked with the dealer and if I purchases the bits from Them like the x box and cans they then fitted them the warranty stayed intact. I did check with Triumph and they said they were quite happy for that arrangement. Regards Joe.
I've made numerous mods to my Street Twin, prior to doing so I asked the service manager from where I purchased and service the bike, unless it was a super catastrophic warranty claim he is not bothered about the mods, just as long as they are done right. Before I embarked on doing so I contacted Triumph, their position is clear any mods whatsoever invalidate warranty specific to the area of concern, this gives them wiggle room to not pay out. When I sell mine it will be returned to stock
Here in the UK they're not likely to be bothered about cosmetic changes, for example slip-on cans (it's some insurance companies that are the problem, so best not to tell them). I altered lots on my Street Twin well before the warranty expired. Obviously if the parts are official Triumph bits then there's no problem. More serious changes, such as to the engine or fuelling system might be an issue if your engine went bang. TEC Parts over here offer a replacement cam to pep up the engine but I wouldn't risk it while the bike was under warranty. I wasn't sure about the X-Pipe, so I got my dealer to fit it. If anything had happened I felt I had some come back if Triumph got shirty. Fortunately it didn't. Btw, don't hesitate to do the X-Pipe thing, it makes a significant difference to the Street Twin
I will ask the dealer but i am on holiday in the states (to get out of the snow).The parts are much cheaper here so would not be from the dealer.The warranty did start in October.I did'nt even start the bike just sat on it and it felt right.I have had many Triumphs in the past,but at 75years old not sure I want to wait for the warrany to run out.What I would like to know is what warranty work owners have had done,if any one these 900 bikes.
There's been one recall on the Street Twin but that was on the earlier model, not yours. I've had no problems with mine in 2'n'half years (3500 miles) of ownership and I haven't heard of anyone else having problems either. It seems a pretty sound bike.
Hi Grippy and welcome to the forum Looking forward to seeing your ride. If concerned about the warranty, you can get a dealer to fit Xpipe and replacement cans. Mods are usually covered if done at dealership, but best to check (and get priced )
