Ive never been happy with the steering lock on my 2016 America....seems a bit flimsy/cheap. Anyway Ive now found the key will only go in about half way as though something is blocking the key way which means I cant put the steering lock on. Ive tried rocking the steering and turning the key and given it a squirt with AC50..no joy. Its still under warrenty so I will see Mr.Triumph..anyone else had problems (by the way spare key wont work either...bike done less than 2000 miles)

Is she secured in other ways? I'd be a bit suspicious and make sure she's locked up tight by other means. Could be just a big of crud got in there by accident though

Use another means of securing the bike - don't use the steering lock.
Look at the length of the handlebars and you can see how much leverage you could get against what is basically a small lock. If you locked it and some scrote twisted your bars and snapped the lock pin, it's a pain to get it fixed. A big F.O. 'U' lock through the wheel and around a fork stanchion is far more secure, and better still you've got panniers to carry it around in.

Steering locks on the Bonneville range are - lets face it crap.
Tomo is right - they can be broken easily with a bit of force and I would also be worried about snapping the stupid little key off myself!

Thanks all for your advice...I now carry a heavy duty chain and lock with me....Mr.Triumph dealer admits these locks are rubbish but wants me to drop bike off for a look see.

    Hi Beanie,
I've never been a fan of factory supplied/fitted locks. Ever since 1984 when the steering lock on my LaverdaRGS 1000 crapped itself, locked whilst in motion, luckily in a carpark, so low speed. No damage done ! Ever since then I pull them out and BIN them. There's much better ways to look after and secure your pride and joy !!!

    Cheers capt.
